Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

I’ll play Devil’s advocate for discussion sake:

If you have a player that recorded 17.5 sacks in a season (league leading and franchise record) and the defense was still bad enough to fail to make the post season, maybe he truly isn’t a priority - maybe everywhere else is a priority….

Idk, just tossing out ideas.

Rest easy. Tanner “Polluted” Hudson is back. With him and Drew “Urine” Sample, they might not even need Gesicki

I'm a fan of that move, not much money to keep a role player that has been pretty impressive when he gets a chance. Kinda curious where we are trying to head at TE. Resigned Hudson, Sample is a solid blocker that can occasionally catch a ball, they drafted All and McLachlan last year, and have the possibility of bringing Gesicki back. None of those guys are dynamic, but they don't need to be if Chase and Higgins are on the field. I was a big proponent of drafting Warren in the first if he is there, but we have bigger needs (though I would be stoked to end up with him).

On Trey, I really want him back and was pissed when I saw they were allowing him to seek a trade. But perhaps if we rob a team blind for a trade I will change my mind. But the guy has been our soul on defense aside from his talent, he would play with a broken leg to get to the QB and you can't replace that with most players. Unless they have an inside track to Garrett or Bosa (doubtful on both), I just don't think we can lose Trey.

Bengals' Cody Ford: Gets new deal from Cincy

The Bengals signed Ford to a two-year contract Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Ford spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bills before signing a one-year deal with Cincinnati last offseason. The 28-year-old appeared in 16 games with nine starts last year. Ford will likely compete for a starting job at guard heading into the 2025 campaign, as Orlando Brown and 2024 first-round pick Amarius Mims should start at the offensive tackle spots.

Bengals' B.J. Hill: Inks new deal

Hill signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Bengals on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Hill will stay in Cincinnati, signing a new deal before the start of free agency. The NC State product is coming off another solid campaign, tallying 56 combined tackles, including 3.0 sacks and four passes defended. Hill will now remain a focal point of the Bengals' defensive interior moving forward.

Bengals bring back an old friend

The Bengals have made their third move of the day and for the third time, it doesn't involve Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins or Trey Hendrickson. Instead, the deal involves Samaje Perine. According to NFL Media, the running back has agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth up to $3.8 million. Perine has spent 3.5 of his eight career NFL seasons in Cincinnati and he'll now be returning for another one.

Bengals make another signing

The Bengals have made their fourth move of the day and for the fourth time, it doesn't involve Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins or Trey Hendrickson. This time around, the Bengals are signing T.J. Slaton. The former Packers defensive tackle is getting a two-year deal worth $15.1 million, according to NFL Media. The 27-year-old was a fifth-round pick by Green Bay in 2021. He became a full-time starter in 2023 and has started all 34 games the Packers have played in over the past two seasons.

Hill was a must given the porous interior DL last year after Reader left and adding Slaton was a homerun for sure...pure run stuffer and the best in the league at it last year. Makes me feel much better about DT now, but probably still want to use one of our top 3 picks on the position. I think we go with Edge in the first round because it is a deep class, but we also resigned Ossai and if he is healthy he can play. I really like the guy from Marshall on edge but JT/Sawyer are appealing if we move back a few spots.

Getting Perine back is awesome, familiar vet and I think he has gas left in the tank to play effectively this season alongside Brown. Big fan of that move. Ford was a good move too for the price, he is solid and versatile but I consider him more of a depth piece. First pick after these moves may need to be an IOL that can play right away (calling Donovan Jackson anyone?).

Sounds like Higgins is close to a long-term deal along with Chase. On Trey, if I had to guess he will be back this season unless some team offers some ridiculous deal for him. The process was mismanaged due to how much more it will cost us now, but the players we needed back will be back it appears.
