Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

Apparently rookie Volson may pass Carman on the depth chart. View that as a great value pick on Volson, or a terrible pick on Carman (assuming that transpires), but if Volson is a better option it should be music to our ears. Also, Burrow came back throwing nothing but darts, our boy is going to be fine.

Finally got to watch the full preseason game. The overall results I don't really care about, just individual performances. On offense, Carman and Prince were awful. Then you had backup receivers like Pryor and Taylor look darn good, and I thought Browning showed up well and hit some really nice rollout throws.

On defense, rookies Hill and Carter both looked to fit the bill. Carter wreaked havoc and man would it help to have him do that in rotation this year, looking like a steal in the 3rd round. Hill looked like a ball hawking Vonn Bell out there...he flies to the ball and high points it, I know he didn't convert the breakups to INT's, but they were excellent plays where he was in good position. Also, 7th rounder Gunter showed some pass rush potential, that kid could stick to the roster for sure.

Chrisman looks good - got way downfield for a nice tackle on a punt. Bengals 3rd string is beating the Giants' 1st string? The commentators said in the 1st half almost every Giant in the game tonight is 1st team. Is that because the Giants are terrible or because Wink Martindale desperately wants to beat the Bengals after last year's embarrassments? OLine looks pretty good to me - especially if it's our backup guys vs. their starters.

Williams looks good at RB. He ran strong and found holes. Personally don't want to see Perine play for the Bengals again.

The Giants started off with all their starters apparently, while the Bengals played no presumptive starters. I say "presumptive" because I could see Hill or Volson grabbing starting roles in certain scenarios. On that same token, both those guys are going to play this year no matter what, especially Hill...that dude covers so much field in an instant and flies to the ball, I almost forgot where he played in college. I was getting upset about the Bates situation, but we might have played this perfectly. If Bates doesn't come back Week 1, he's going to lose his spot imo... and to someone way cheaper on a rookie contract.

Good lord, the amount of versatility the secondary would have if Bates plays on the Tag… Hill can play the 2CB, slot, FS, even probably a bit in the box on passing downs.

The ideal scenario is Bates playing for sure, having Bell, Bates and Hill on the field at the same time would be fun to watch. Hill can play anywhere in the secondary pretty much and he is such an athlete you just have to get him out there some this year. I am feeling real good on the secondary this year...no All Pro type of lockdown guy, but so much depth and ability with Awuzie, Hilton, Apple, Bates, Bell and Hill...maybe even Taylor-Britt if he gets healthy. Really think this defense is going to make some plays, I think they will give up some but come up in the big moments like last year.

Live scrimmage against the Rams with both sides starters in (not sure who thought that was a good idea) ends in a melee braw ending the scrimmage. Don't think either side has forgot about February haha.

Brawl ends Los Angeles Rams-Cincinnati Bengals joint practice

A brawl between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams forced both teams to halt their intersquad practice Thursday, the teams' final day of joint practices.

On a day filled with post-snap affairs, a melee broke out during a team drill featuring the Bengals' first-team offense and the Rams' first-team defense. A Rams defender who was unable to be identified from a distance was engaged with Bengals right tackle La'el Collins. The defender had Collins wrapped up from behind, arms around his chest, seconds after Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon was a few yards downfield.

Collins took exception and swung punches once he was free, sparking a massive fracas that drew several whistles and flags from the officiating crew. Multiple helmets were removed, with a Cincinnati Enquirer photographer spotting Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald wielding a Bengals lid in each hand. After practice, a video circulated on Twitter appearing to show Donald swinging a helmet multiple times during the scrum.

Let’s face it, the NFL only cares when shit happens on TV.

I'm waiting for Donald to be suspended at least 6 games for ripping off an opponent's helmet and hitting them with it. I don't give a shit if it was at practice. It was another team and caught on tape. This should be a more egregious (since the NFL likes that word) offense than Garrett since he had multiple helmets.

I'm also holding my breath on Matt Araiza not seeing the field this season, but I guess 20 happy endings is worse than 1 gang rape.

Those same rules unfortunately do not apply to preseason practices.

He said hold my beer, and proceeded to swing two Bengals’ helmets around at players.

Well I can say that Gunter looks legit, if he doesn't make the 53 man roster we're still not going to let him leave Cincy. Kid can play. Also want Trent Taylor to earn a spot, good punt returner, receiver and just seems to be a team player.
