I'm completely on board with either Johnson or Fairley. Fairley battling weight concerns scares me some and he's never been more than a rotational DT, but a great one when he's in, him and Atkins on passing downs would be lethal. Johnson, obviously last season scares me but we were able to get the best out of him (granted it was a contract year but you'd hope he'd be motivated by getting cut and the much smaller salary that'll result). I do think we'll have to fight with Zimmer for Johnson and wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in Minny instead of the Cinci. And I still personally prefer Hardy to either of them, not a lot of news on that front at the moment likely because his NFL status needs to be settled.
I honestly don't think Hawk changes anything at all on the draft board, you don't give someone only $500k guaranteed if you expect him to be any kind of meaningful contributor. I think we see him as a 4th LB + vet presence, which is fine, but shouldn't prevent us from going LB early, I still think we need a talent infusion there especially with Burfict's microfracture... and I would love to replace Maualuga but clearly not happening anytime soon.
I still think the play for first three rounds is DL/LB/OT in some order, with the DL being whatever position we don't fill in FA. I think we can get a deep-threat WR in like the 4th (someone like Chris Conley or Kenny Bell), although I'd almost prefer another TE: Eifert has been decent when healthy but not spectacular and we don't really have anything behind him.

I kind of hope Dorial Green-Beckham gets drafted by the Bengals. Having a 6'5"+ receiver play on the other side of Green would be lethal (assuming Gingersnaps can GET the ball to them)
That would be an awesome pick...if he is available there and does not show significant rust, that could be incredible.
Heard that. I would love to bring Bennett aboard. A quick 3-tech like Bennett would be awesome (assuming we don't get Fairley or another DT of that caliber). And really, I would not mind having Johnson back...he fit well here.

It's wishful thinking on my part to even think they'll use one of their higher picks on a WR, but a true #2 WR is badly needed.

If Jones is healthy, I think he was coming into his own as a legitimate #2 threat at the end of the year before last...and Sanu is excellent in the slot. But Green-Beckham would just be another level type talent to add to Green.

I want someone who demands double teams as much as Green. (similar to how Alshon Jeffrey emerged in Chicago)

Fairley signs with St. Louis, would have liked to see him here for sure. Need to land one of Johnson/Hardy.

Love having him back, he is a great fit in our defense and he still has some good ball to play imo. With Hawk and Johnson, we have pretty good depth built back up at two areas we needed to build. Going to be an interesting draft...I would like the following:
Round 1: OT Andrus Peat (need a LT for the future and there appears to be some good value available when we pick)
Round 2: DT Michael Bennett (I think he would be an ideal fit for us as a 3-tech...immediate impact in both run stopping and pass rush...not sure if he will still be on the board though)
Round 3: LB Denzel Perryman (we still need a LB that could potentially start and I really like Perryman)
Round 4: WR Kenny Bell (or Ty Montgomery from Stanford...we just need a deep threat)
Round 5: TE Jeff Heureman (call me a homer but if he is available here or maybe even in the 4th, I would love to have him...or Blake Bell from Oklahoma...but we do need another TE)
Round 6: DE Ray Drew (still would like to get another pass rusher on the edge)
Round 7: LB Jeff Luc (right in town and a big, imposing LB...I would like two in the draft)

Like I've said earlier, any three of OT/DT/LB in the first three works for me. You now give yourself the luxury of BPA at any of those 3 positions. I would be excited if we looked at Ogbuehi, he's going to fall cause of his ACL tear but we don't need him this year so we may be able to get value out of that (could be a trade out of the late first into the early second to pick up an extra 4/5 and take him there).
At DT, guys who are going to be right in our range are Bennet, Carl Davis, Henry Anderson, and I'd be happy with any of them. I don't know if Perryman will be around in the 3rd but if so definitely go get him, otherwise we should be able to pick someone up.

Of course the projections will change alot between now and draft day, but I used current approximate projections. And I just realized we have two 3rd round picks thanks to the Johnson trade, so we should be able to fill every need with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. And it is from Tampa, so it will be an early 3rd. So maybe we can also pick up a WR or TE in the 3rd.
In any event, I was moreso just thinking those should be the target areas and I am fine drafting any of those positions in the first 3...just get the best value available. As for DT, I really like Bennett because I think he still has a high ceiling in the NFL (still room on the frame to get bigger without losing that explosive first step) and he provides a pass rush from the 3-tech spot that we do not have. Everyone in the NFL loves the big 315+ lb. DT that is a "freak" and I think that will cause Bennett to fall a little bit (he is probably 285 at most). Atkins will hopefully return close to his old form but Bennett is a great insurance policy if not. I think he could be a long-term stud in Cincy but still could be an instant impact situationally as a rotation guy with Atkins, Peko, Thompson, and maybe Still.

I saw Dehner's tweet about this after the Michael Johnson signing, but I'm not sure exactly how this works. As I understand it, we don't get Tampa's 3rd round pick, but rather additional picks are added at the end of the third round. So not sure that how bad Tampa was last year impacts our compensatory picks, but I could be wrong here?
Regardless, the extra pick helps out a ton. And agree that those are definitely the three target positions, and we're in a really good spot to just go BPA from those 3 spots at any juncture.

Compensatory picks announced yesterday, Bengals picked up a 3rd and a 4th, which I hadn't heard anything about. Really nice haul for them, I think the thing I'm most excited about is that it gives us an opportunity to go BPA if there's someone in the 1st/2nd we really like but isn't a need because we'll be able to fill those needs with the 6 picks in the first 4 rounds.
