in a shocker....Bengals were able to resign Reggie Nelson...
that's huge
Personally I am not all that impressed with Nelson...still hoping we take a safety first round. And I like the Green-Ellis pickup alot but I am still hoping we pull the trigger on LaMicheal James for the future. It would be nice to have a homerun threat at RB...which is why I was hoping to sign Bush. Not a spectacular free-agency yet, but not bad either. I would have liked to see us get a legit CB (Jason Allen was a good pickup though) and hopefully Hall comes back healthy. Add one DE to play in the rotation (word is either Harvey or Jamaal Anderson) and we can easily address the rest of our needs in the draft. As it stands, I would like to see us take:
#17, First Rd: G/CB/S. At least one of Barron or Kirkpatrick should be available here...take either one, preferably Barron because the safety position needs a big upgrade. I don't think DeCastro will be available but if he is, take him.
#21, First Rd: G/CB/S. I think DeCastro will be gone by 17 and that Cordy Glenn would fit nicely if available here. If somehow either of Kirkpatrick/Barron slips here, I say there is no way you pass.
#21, Second Rd: RB. I think a trade up to get one of Lamar Miller or LaMichael James would make sense if they aren't going to be available here. Either way, both backs would be a great pickup and another weapon for Dalton.
#21, Third Rd: WR/Kick Returner. If Page from Toledo is available, I would like to see us go for him. Jones gets hurt returning kicks and a return threat who can be used in the slot if need be would be nice.
- In the end, I see Guard and Safety as two positions that MUST be addressed in the first three picks. Wharton was a good pickup at guard but we really need to replace both guards. Either of Glenn or DeCastro works. Safety play for the Bengals has been atrocious my entire life. We wait until Round 3 to try and take some project that never works out. Get Barron or bust...I don't see any other safeties worth taking in the first 3 picks. I think CB is decent for one more year. Adding Allen to Clements, Hall, and Jones should be adequate, although a young star would be nice. Getting a young playmaker at RB is more important to me with the first 3 picks...Scott is a solid backup and Green-Ellis is a good player, but we have no homerun threat. Green-Ellis is not exactly a spring chicken and getting a young back would be big. For once, I pray to God we don't use one of the first 3 picks on a DL. I am more than satisfied with Peko, Atkins, Dunlap, Johnson, Sims and Co. Fanene and Ruckere were good, but if we grab one free-agent to rotate in, we will be just fine.
