Bengals owner wants to sign T.O.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Bengals owner Mike Brown is trying to bring receiver Terrell Owens aboard.
Browns said Monday that the team is discussing a contract with Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Owens worked out for the Bengals in March, but they decided instead to sign receiver Antonio Bryant to a four-year deal.
The 36-year-old Owens is working out with Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer in California. Palmer has called coach Marvin Lewis and given good reports on Owens.
Brown is known for giving extra chances to troubled players. He said he sat down with Owens in March and was impressed with him.

Ochocinco was reporting this yesterday.

Chad Ochocinco was back at it Sunday, campaigning on Twitter for Terrell Owens to don Bengals stripes with him this season. And Ocho made a few revelations in the process, including who holds the cards in this matter of pigskin importance.

To ESPN on-air host Trey Wingo, Ocho tweeted: ?im pushing for T.O. with the lil bit of power and influence i have with out org. That will help us tremendously as a team,? adding ?im out of the loop now, i expressed my beliefs on why he should be here and that?s all i can do, #9 has the real power.?

This piqued the interest of actor/comedian Marlon Wayans, who re-invoked Ocho?s own Batman imagery when he asked the receiver, ?is batman n rovin gonna happen? If so that?s exciting.?

Ocho again left no doubt about who holds sway in Cincinnati: ?We got Alfred to keep us in line, Alfred is Carson Palmer.?

Given Palmer's vigorous expression of hatred toward a certain local university, I have ceased to care about his emotional well-being. While this would be a disastrous choice for the Bangles, it should provide a sumptuous feast of ridiculosity for us posters on BP. Hurry September!

There are two reason they are considering it. 1) Carson has been working out with TO and likes what he sees from him. And 2) sounds like Bryants knee is worse than they thought it was and he has look very unimpressive during mini camps.

I forgot they already have Bryant. He threw his jersey at Parcells and stormed out of practice back in Dallas. He wasn't there much longer.

It could be the Three Stooges in Cinci this season.

Well, it's happened. Receiver Terrell Owens has agreed to terms with the Bengals.

Per a league source, Owens will receive a base salary of $2 million. He can earn up to another $2 million in incentives.

(We reported it first, scooping even the OCNN, which put the word out several minutes after us.)

The source says that the incentives are based on receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Given that the Bengals didn't really have a need at the position and in light of the franchise's reputation for being extremely careful with money, it's a good deal for Owens. He gets more than twice the veteran minimum for a player of his experience, and though the specific triggers for the $2 million are not yet known, it's our understanding that if he performs like he did last year in Buffalo (55 catches, 829 yards, five touchdowns), he'll earn most of the money.

That said, the decision to tie that much money to performance could create friction, if Owens isn't on the field as much as he believes he needs to be. The Bengals likely know this, and the decision potentially reflects a concession that Antonio Bryant isn't going to be what they thought he was going to be.

Why? So now the Browns won't even get to OT this year. Of course with Delhomme throwing 5 interceptions a game I am not sure they will get that close to anyone this year. Well, at least the Lions are off the schedule this year. We know how much trouble the Browns have with teams that have only won 1 other game in the last 2 years.

Five reasons why T.O. will work in Cincy - AFC North Blog - ESPN

The Cincinnati Bengals forged an interesting marriage Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract with enigmatic receiver Terrell Owens. This will mark the first time Owens and fellow flamboyant receiver Chad Ochocinco are on the same team, creating a potential circus atmosphere for Cincinnati.

But here are five reasons why the Owens acquisition will work out well for the Bengals this season:

1. Owens won't be the No. 1 receiver

Analysis: Ochocinco is the top receiver in Cincinnati and is four years younger than Owens, who is 36. At this stage of Owens' career, he can no longer carry the load by himself. But Owens is still good enough to be a solid option as a No. 2 receiver. Cincinnati had trouble passing the ball over the middle last year, and Owens should help. He is strong enough to make short catches and break tackles for bigger gains. With Ochocinco going over the top of the defense, it should be a good combination.

2. The Bengals are contenders

Analysis: Winning matters. The Bengals are the defending AFC North champs and are expected to compete for that same crown again this season. The Bengals are looking to add onto last year's playoff appearance, and that has to be music to Owens' ears after playing in Buffalo. He is approaching the end of his career and needs to be in a winning situation to get the best out of him. As long as the Bengals are successful and Owens is contributing, look for Owens to fall in line.

3. The Bengals have plenty of experience with brash WRs

Analysis: What better way than to prepare for Owens' arrival than to have years and years of Ochocinco? Both are very good friends and similar in the type of attention they draw in the locker room. Sure, sometimes this pair may go overboard with antics and entertainment. But it won't be like the Bengals haven't had to deal with that before.

4. Carson Palmer

Analysis: After working out with Palmer this offseason, Owens already has the backing of Cincinnati's franchise quarterback. That will go a long way to getting Owens instant credibility in the Bengals' locker room. Owens didn't have a quality quarterback to get him the football last year with the Buffalo Bills. But expect that to change this season with Palmer.

5. AFC North has secondary questions

Analysis: The Baltimore Ravens' secondary is banged up. The Cleveland Browns have young corners and safeties, and the Pittsburgh Steelers still have work to do to get back to their 2008 form. Adding Owens will help strengthen Cincinnati and take advantage of other division teams' weaknesses. The Bengals were at their best passing the ball when T.J. Houshmandzadeh was able to take advantage of Ochocinco being double teamed. Now AFC North defenses will have to reconsider that strategy. Overall, adding Owens for one year -- at their price -- was a good move by the Bengals.
