Can someone who uses a Chrome book give me the pros and cons of how they work?

My son has one. Can’t say for all of them, but he’s basically constrained to WiFi (but uses phone as hotspot) and fairly limited to google apps for productivity. There may be other apps for productivity, but he’s a freshman in HS so most of that is OK since the school leverages Goog for most things.

He loves it. Wouldn’t work for me, but does for him.

My daughter is thinking of getting one for her husband. He does email, browses the web and uses one app that has an Android version that probably can be installed on the Chromebook.

As a replacement for a tablet (e.g. iPad or similar) I have to imagine that it’s very capable. I’m almost all apple (aside from *NIX servers / clusters) for work and otherwise so another OS would be a drag to learn to manage. But if he’s not apple already, he’d probably be just fine.

One thought would be to review the apps available for Chromebooks and compare against what he’s already using. If he’s all goog all the time, he’d probably love it.

Good luck!

My kid has had hers for a couple years now. Basically a large tablet with keyboard. Looking at laptops this year so she can play minecraft on it, which is possible on a chromebook but not really worth it imo, and we're buying her a thing called a Sphero that uses basic code and needs Microsoft applications that aren't available on chromebooks.

It's all about what you plan to do with it

I have a Sphero on my desk. Solid geek toy. I wish I had more time to play with it.
