If he can manage to deploy an offense in which Dorian Thompson-Robinson can put up 10k passing yards, 88 TDs to 36 INTs, and 2k rushing yards with an additional 28 TDs on the ground with limited talent surrounding him, I’m pretty confident he still has what it takes to get the best out of an offense with more talent than he’ll know what to do with.

I’m most excited to see some of the read concepts he’ll be able to implement with two of the best RBs in the country, and multiple mobile QB options as well. This should be a fun offense, and takes a ton off Day’s plate to allow him to continue outfitting the Death Star.

My guess is timing and knowledge. Did Day know Kelly was looking for a new job until the NFL rumors started? Kelly was also probably feeling hopeful about NFL instead of College.
When the NFL passed on him and BOB moved on at about the same time... the stars aligned.
