Chicago Bears (official thread)

Justin Fields already invested in the Bears-Packers rivalry

Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields is no stranger to big-time rivalries. After all, the former Ohio State quarterback got his taste of one of college football’s best with Michigan vs. Ohio State.

As Fields transitions to the NFL, he’s joining another prolific rivalry with Bears vs. Packers. And Fields is already showing he’s invested in the NFL’s oldest rivalry.

Fields and quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator John DeFilippo were chatting about Fields’ center at Ohio State.

DeFilippo asked where his center, Josh Myers, was drafted, to which Fields responded: “To the wrong team.”

That team? Bears fans know.

“The Packers,” Fields said.

You’ve gotta love it.

“He’s a first-round pick, I understand that,” Dalton said, via the Chicago Sun Times. “But I also understand that I’m the starter. I understand that. I knew I signed a one-year deal. I knew that I was going to come in and I was going to be the starter, regardless of the situation, coming in. That’s my focus. I’m not worried about all the stuff that’s going to be going on with Justin because that doesn’t affect me.”

“As soon as possible, ASAP,” Clark said on NFL Live. “Well, you know who is not exciting? Andy Dalton. You know who is not fun? Nick Foles. Right now it should be Coach Dalton and Coach Foles that coach along with Coach Nagy getting Justin Fields as prepared as he could possibly be to play. We watched Andy Dalton play after Dak Prescott was injured last year and we saw the drop off in that Cowboys offense. Now think about this, Justin Fields is a bigger, stronger, faster Dak Prescott, so it shouldn't be a question about who's more prepared physically to play the position for the Chicago Bears.

“Matt Nagy should be thinking about who can save my job, that if Justin Fields goes out and plays well he can push us into the playoffs now. They sit back and the executives and the owners look at me and say Matt Nagy, you've started something, this is a great draft pick. This kid has potential, and we saw that potential on the grass, you don't get that from Andy Dalton, you don't get that from Nick Foles and so if I’m Matt Nagy, I am pushing for Justin Fields to be the starter. And if I was a Chicago Bears fan, I am praying that he earns that spot.”

"Justin’s going to have his time and Justin’s going have a great career, but right now it’s my time and so my focus is on being the best player I can be for this team and doing everything I can to help this team win.”

“It was hard to tell if we knew exactly how many snaps he was going to get,” Nagy said. “But once you get behind like we did and you get back a few scores, that’s when you get more into the two-minute mode. That’s probably why there was a little bit less. I think that for him, the times he got in there, he did well, being his first game. Andy did a good job, too, of helping extend some of those drives. Us going through that whole deal of how it’s going to go, we’ll continue to keep growing with that stuff and see what we want to do with that.”

Chicago Bears say quarterback Andy Dalton remains their starter if healthy; early tests show no ACL tear

In the hours since the Chicago Bears' 20-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Matt Nagy declined multiple times to clarify whether veteran Andy Dalton (left knee) would remain the team's starting quarterback if healthy.

However, five minutes after Nagy's Monday morning's news conference concluded, where Nagy cited "scheme" as the reason he could not divulge whether Dalton would remain the starting quarterback over rookie Justin Fields, the Bears sent a team official into the media room to announce that Dalton is, in fact, still the Bears' starting quarterback, health permitting.

The team official stated that Nagy misunderstood the question.

"If Andy is healthy, is he your starter?" Nagy was asked when pressed about the subject in the news conference.

Said Nagy: "That's something that I'm not going to get into with scheme."
