American auto makers missed the boat years ago, apparantly never understanding the need for a high quality, high mpg car. Ford motor has been moving plants out of the US and saying they couldn't make money while at the same time the foriegn car makers were building plants here and making billions.
This car may be a step in the right direction but not at 45 thou . Who in hell can afford it? not me.

or maybe they are to busy making a killing overseas and losing their shorts here in the states.

blame tariffs, the dollar and many other things here. once again this issue is so much more complex than people give it credit...

Actually our federal government has a lot to do with that. You see they impose more taxes on American based companies then forgien based companies. As a forgien based company you get a tax break for buliding a plant here (the exact duration of the break I don't know) then also they're not paying income taxes here because all the profits are seen as out of country.

I think we need to stop pretending that we don't have oil, stop buying into the warming hysteria, and stop trying to emulate France. We can blame our wonderful federal government for that, along with other issues cited in this thread.

A lot of Americans aren't going to be interested in these silly cars that need plugged in every few hours AND cost twice as much, for no good reason. When they can produce an alternative vehicle that functions like a gasoline powered one, at similar cost, then they'll have something.

not only do the foriegn car companies get federal tax breaks. local gov typically offers no taxes and financial incentives to build their plants in their counties for an agreed upon amount of time. once those incentives are up, the foriegn car company threaten to close the plant unless they are reinstated. in the end, not only are they getting tax breaks american car manufacturers aren't, they are in many cases literally being paid to keep their plant open.

oh and im still not convinced electric is the future.
