Charles Barkley (merged all)

His other claim to fame was a 2008 running a stop sign incident (and subsequent DUI arrest) in Gilbert AZ where he claimed he was just in a hurry to get to a rendezvous with an unnamed woman for oral sex. He also told a civilian employee there, "I'll tattoo your name on my ass if it would get me out of the DUI".

:slappy:

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sir Charles.

Bill Russell gives Charles Barkley the middle finger during NBA Awards

The NBA Awards show is a staid, relatively mundane event and honors players more than two months after the regular season ends.

While Monday night’s award show went largely as planned – Ben Simmons took home Rookie of the Year and Dwane Casey, formerly of the Toronto Raptors, won Coach of the Year – Bill Russell had other plans as Charles Barkley introduced Oscar Robertson for his Lifetime Achievement Award.

As Barkley went around the room, thanking NBA legends for their contributions, he got to Russell, who promptly flipped Barkley the bird.

It wasn’t apparent what the issue was, but does Bill Russell need any justification?

Russell's official Twitter account offered up a humorous apology that also included a screen-grab of the moment.

Former NBA star Charles Barkley is selling his Olympic gold medals and his MVP award to cover the costs of building affordable housing in his hometown in Alabama.

Barkley has gold medals from the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, in which he played for Team USA, and received the NBA Most Valuable Player award in 1993.

While speaking to the "Dan Le Betard Show" on March 5, Barkley said he was auctioning off the medals, MVP award, and other memorabilia, with the sports card company Panini, in hopes of building 20 affordable homes in Leeds, Alabama, a town east of Birmingham where he grew up.

"I don't think I have to walk around with my gold medal or my MVP trophy for people to know I'm Charles Barkley, so I'm going to sell all that crap," Barkley said.

Barkley housed the memorabilia at his grandmother's house for years, but since she passed away, it's been at his home.

"That just clutters my house," Barkley said. "I used to keep it at my grandmother's house, but they all passed away, and I don't want that stuff crapping up my house."

Charles Barkley won't retire, to stay with TNT even if no NBA

Charles Barkley intends to remain with TNT Sports through the remainder of his contract.

The Hall of Fame player announced Tuesday that he will not retire next season, reversing the announcement he made in June during the NBA Finals.

Barkley said at the time that the 2024-25 season would be his last on television no matter what eventually happened with the NBA's media deal negotiations. He signed a 10-year contract extension with TNT Sports in 2022.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT Sports, has sued the NBA in New York state court after the league did not accept the company's matching offer for one of the packages in its new 11-year media rights deal, which will begin with the 2025-26 season.

"I love my TNT Sports family. My No. 1 priority has been and always will be our people and keeping everyone together for as long as possible," Barkley said in a statement. "... I'm looking forward to continuing to work with them both on the shows we currently have and new ones we develop together in the future.

"This is the only place for me. I have to say ... I've been impressed by the leadership team who is fighting hard and have been aggressive in adding new properties to TNT Sports, which I am very excited about. ... I'm going to give my all as we keep [fans] entertained for years to come."
