  • So, the Chinese were able to successfully launch a landing vehicle, navigate it to the far side of the moon, and land it there. Then they forget to attach a heater to the biological experiment cannister, so the seeds of cotton, potato, rapeseed and Arabidopsis plants, as well as fruit-fly eggs and yeast, all died when night fell. Because, you know, it gets pretty fucking cold at night on the moon.

How in the fuck can a group of scientists smart enough to successfully land a vehicle on the far side of the moon overlook the simple facts that organisms will need to be protected from -60 degree temperatures.

You've never worked with Engineers, have you?
Also very likely the Physicists are elite talent... and the Biologists... apparently not.

There's a decided hierarchy in STEM... and Biology is somewhere in the middle. Most people with the talent and drive necessary to be elite Biologists.... aren't. They chose to be elite Chemists, Physicists, EEs, etc.

Eh, at this point many of the people with the drive and talent to be elite scientists go into finance.

I took Calc I at a Uni that separated classe between STEM and non-STEM (mostly Business). I didnt get the reason to separate them out.
Then i took Calc II at a place that didnt separate the Finance people out and immediately understood... they dragged the lectures down and held everyone back.

I have to laugh at that. Anyone remember the t-shirt: lim(engineering) as GPA->0 = Business School?
