CFP Game BMW Thread: #9 Tennessee at #8 tOSU

I have been saying since about week 3 that Howards inability to throw past 55yds will not allow the team to win in the playoffs. Like you said, once teams realized they didn't have to keep safeties very deep, the field shrank, and its been a struggle ever since. It really is unfortunate to easily have the best WR group in the country be limited like this, but it is what it is.

I still think Howard gives us the best chance to win. There is no way Sayin is ready. I also don't know WTF happened to Howards legs, it's a mystery to me. Oh and I also would be throwing to the Backs more.
I contend that he can throw it deep but we just don’t call it because it’s not a strength per se. Listening to Zach Smith today and his take is similar. His take is he’s improved a lot from game 1 but we just don’t call many of them.

If we are going to win it all we’ve got to find ways to hit big plays for scores. We aren’t going to grind it out vs UGA or Texas or even Tennessee. We need to find a way to be explosive.

I disagree. Every deep ball he has thrown all year has been horribly under thrown. He hit Smith on a few that went like 30-40yrds in the air, that's about it. Even when he has been able to step into it all he has is 55yrd HARD max.

I 100% agree we can't grind it out. If we didn't have a top 5 defense I think we get blown out at the Shoe next week.

Example :

At 2:30 here Howard has a perfect pocket. Underthrows Smith by 10-15yds. Not trying to be mean, he gave everything he had this year, and he played banged up in the biggest game of the year. Watching highlights its crazy how good Smith and Ebuka are BTW.

You state every deep ball… well that’s just not true.

So you should figure that out.

He hit multiple against NW alone

Northwestern? Hit one against scUM. Howard came from the Big 12. He ran wild and played great there. The trouble is he stepped up in class..and Kelly Day didn’t improve him.
Yes Northwestern…

JJ dropped a touchdown, and Will hit two to Tate.

He’s missed a few guys for sure but he had the right idea on them though. As Zach Smith said… he’s not bad he just doesn’t get a lot of opportunities

I don't really have a problem with Howard, and I think people are overthinking it. I'm more concerned with the weather, and how that will affect the game plan. If we can't run our base offense, we will be in trouble. If we can, then we should be able to put up points, as long as Day actually allows the team to run the base offense.
