When talking about schedules, I think most folks would agree that "set up well" implies "easy", at least comparatively easy. Playing Washington, Penn State, and Michigan at home, instead of on the road, would be be "set up well"...

Set up well meaning early in the schedule...ie before PSU, Wiscy, TSUN, which Fiutak clearly delineates in his tOSU puff piece. And yeah, IMO, along with most of America, our first 8 games set up well and are relatively easy compared to tOSU past schedules and most of the nation's top 10.

They totally screw up the safety position. No mention of Russell at all. Patterson starting? Can't believe that. I'd believe Russell and Coleman before O'Neal and Patterson.

They need to remove Underwood from the 2-deep.

Hartline will get the reps in 2-WR sets before Small.

They should also take Ryan Williams off the depth chart, but this blurb is in the DB section:

Certain to be in the mix somewhere will be sophomore Anderson Russell a fantastic looking safety prospect who started out the season well with 16 tackles in five games before suffering a knee injury. If healthy, he'll likely be back in the starting mix at strong safety,

Look, I'm not to going to argue with you, or others, here or via PM over semantics. First, I was addressing 7Brutus7's comment, not Fiutak's article. His comment, "I didn't realize how well our schedule was set up for this year", covers the whole season...having to play at PSU in the 9th game and at Michigan in the finale is not really having the schedule well set up. Having to play Washington at Seattle and having Wiscy sandwiched in between PSU and scUM isn't "well set up". Playing Washington in The Shoe, and having easy games before and after our games with PSU, Wiscy, and scUM, or at least playing them at The Shoe, would be "well set up".

If you want to see a schedule "well set up" for a conference and national title run, look at last year's schedule...except for the road game at Texas, we had a schedule almost custom made for a run. We got PSU and scUM at home, and conference road games at an over-rated Iowa, self-destructing Michigan State, Illinois, and Northwestern.

Now, is it fortunate that our schedule for the first eight games only has one real serious test (at Washington), allowing Boeckman to develop before that brutal four-game set? Yes, it is, absolutely. However, having to play at PSU and scUM while playing a team (Wiscy) that gives us fits on our home field--in a four-game span--does not make a "well set up" schedule for the entire season.

My apologies regarding the error (on my part) regarding well set up because I thought that was the quote from Fiutak. Sorry. Beyond this, I think the schedule sets up well to get a run going, which is how I interpreted the comments. Much like 2002, you get a good run, build confidence, and then make the stretch run against solid competition when you are more prepared.

I think people could really be sleeping on Purdue. Their defense isn't great, and we should be able to put some points on the board, but Purdue is a night game, and the second consecutive B10 game in 2 weeks. The last three times we've went to West Lafayette have been VERY close games (1-2 w/ Holy Buckeye). They also have a terrific offense coming back led by a (near) 4,000 yard passer in Painter and two playmakers on the outside Dorien Bryant and Selwyn (sp?) Lymon. I think this could really be a sleeper game that a lot of people are overlooking in the pre-season.

Good points...

I agree with the article except for the 7.5 score for our D-Line. I think Big Vern, Wilson, Rose, and Dexter are going to cause other teams major problems.

I think that given the relative unknowns these players are to CFN, a 7.5 rating is pretty respectable....

Really the DL should be split into two groups when talking about OSU. Our DE's should be noticeably higher, while our DT unit has to prove they are good/great (aka above a 7.5).

Agree'd I'd put the DE's with a 9 or 9.5 and the DT's with a 7 or 7.5 worst case scenerio, I have it averaging out to an 8.0 for the D-Line.

Well, duh. But considering we can't choose our Big-10 schedule, it's set up well. We have 8 games we should win including 2 mild road tests in Purdue and Washington. There's not much more you can ask for to help our young offense. Hopefully they'll have gelled by the time UW(the cheese kind) rolls around and can make a push for NC consideration.

I don't agree "set up well" implies "easy", BTW.

Yea that's basically what i was driving at, a schedule that gives TB and the rest of the offense time to get all the quirks worked out and be playing good football by crunch time...sorry for the confusion or whatever

I think a "momentum building schedule" is the perfect term for it as Taosman said

although apparently we have the 9th easiest schedule in the NCAA according to espn.com, so who knows...
