Celtics-Magic Second round series

It's clear that Cavs' fans are cheering for the Celtics to win this series. The Celtics are not a very formidable opponent sans Garnett. If, by some miracle, KG were cleared to play in the ECF, then it would be one hell of a series.

Even if Garnett were to be cleared, I still want the Cavs to play the Celtics. There's no way that Garnett would be anywhere close to 100% effective after being out for so long, and even if by some miracle he was, I still think the Cavs match up far better with Boston than with Orlando. And there's also the added bonus of getting revenge for last year.

I can't bring myself to root for the Celtics.

Say what you want about the Celtics not being very formidable w/o Garnett, but the Magic are proving themselves to not be very formidable in their own right. Meanwhile, the Celtics found a way to pull out the first series and won't go away in this one.

If the Magic make it to the next round they're not getting any better, they're not adding a HOF player to their lineup that's not out there now. The Celtics might though. Meanwhile Orlando has an imbecile for a head coach and won't get all of the bullshit calls that Boston has got so far. Make no mistake - if Cleveland meets Boston they'll be allowed to continue cheapshotting their way thru this thing without any kind or disciplinary action. I don't want it to come down to the Cavs facing the Celtics + Garnett + the refs. I'll continue rooting for Orlando to advance, thank you.

I know it's impossible to root for the Celtics...but its not impossible to root against the Magic . As far as the refs go, I honestly think that Stern would rather have LeBron in the Finals than Boston, so I doubt the bias would go their way. And yes the Magic have proven to be just as vulnerable as the Celtics, but I honestly have no idea how the Cavs would be able to stop Dwight Howard down low. He would just maul our big men.

Stan Van Gundy does one hell of a job stopping Dwight Howard.

You can't be serious with the whole playing against the refs thing? If anybody's playing against the refs it's the Cavs opponents because the Cavs have the superstar. The Cavs have homecourt and Boston hasn't been able to beat us in the Q with or without KG, don't see why that would change now. Even if there was some grand conspiracy to have Boston in the Finals, which is utterly ridiculous, why would they make an already banged up Boston team have to go 7 just to beat the Bulls knowing they're going to have to get through the Magic and Cavs the next two series? In a league that's driven by superstars and I'm David Stern and I'm "fixing" the playoffs(once again ridiculous) I sure as hell would rather have LeBron there who's an infinitely bigger star and more marketable than anbody that's playing on the Celtics. Not to mention the Cavs are the best team in the league and Boston is without it's best player.

Regarding the Celtics getting special treatment, I agree that jlb shouldn't have put the blame on the refs.

Stu Jackson's office needs to share the blame.

I am serious about it. The league is driven by its stars, but it is also driven by its legacy franchises. I never said anything about the playoffs being fixed. I just think that certain teams and players get the benefit of the doubt from officials. I think Boston with or without Garnett would be permitted by officials to play a different brand of defense than Orlando would against the Cavs.

And I know I alluded to flagrant fouls and junk like that, but let's forget about the cheap shots and Stu Jackson. I remember LeBron getting nickeled & dimed last year by Boston to the extent that he settled for jumpers and lost a lot of effectiveness. He's a better player this year no doubt, but you can bet that either team that advances is gonna try that crap. I think Orlando is less likely to get away with it.

I'll also add this:

If Orlando wants to advance they better win the next two games. They have no chance in a seventh game. They wouldn't even have a chance if it were in Orlando.
Magic don't have a chance period. Relying on the three and playing spotty d catches up to you in the playoffs. I said it before the playoffs even started the Magic weren't a threat because they rely on 3, and Dwight is really not that great offensively unless he is within two to three feet of the basket. And Stan is a wreck on the sidelines. They were doomed when Jameer went down. The only promising thing for the Magic is Courtney Lee.

Orlando Sentinel - Big Baby shoves Magic fan by

Let the drama begin.
Orlando Magic fan Ernest Provetti is demanding an apology from Glen "Big Baby" Davis after the Celtics' thrilling Game 4 win in Orlando Sunday.
Why exactly?
Provetti said Davis shoved his 12-year-old son Nicholas with such force after Davis made a game-winning jumper, that Nicholas' baseball cap catapulted into the air and his son dove into his courtside seat.
Provetti sent an e-mail to the NBA League office this morning. He said Davis crossed the line, literally, and embarrassed his son.
"The NBA makes it clear to not cross the sideline," he said in a telephone interview. "If I cross that line, the NBA will take away my tickets. It's a double standard."
In the e-mail, Provetti said Davis conducted himself like a "raging animal with no regard for fans' personal safety."
Provetti moved to Orlando from New Jersey last year and is opening another branch to his toy company, Team Trinity. He was previously a fan of the Celtics because he watched Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers as a former player for the New York Knicks from 1992-94.
He comes to every game at Amway Arena and sits in the V.I.P Row A, seats 5 and 6. After Sunday's game, Provetti said he received calls and text messages from other fans checking on his son. Magic player Adonal Foyle also checked on how his son was after the game.
Provetti saw the video clip online this morning. He did not think it was funny.
"How do you like to be a 12-year-old and see a raging lunatic coming at you?"
More details to come. Check back later.

I agree with this to an extent. Boston definitely gets a good deal of leeway from the officials, but so does LeBron. He's averaging barely over 1 foul per game this postseason. That's crazy for someone that plays the kind of defense he does. I've noticed in the Atlanta series especially that he seems to be getting the benefit of the doubt on most calls. I'm not gonna lie, I like it. There have been so many times in the past where it seemed like the refs were out to get my team. It's a nice change that it seems like they're actually on my team's side this time.

I'm sure LeBron gets plenty of calls or non-calls. I'm not interested in fairness though - I'm interested in the Cavs winning and wouldn't mind one bit if they got special treatment all the way to a title.
