Cedar Point, Six Flags, Kings Island, Disney, etc.... (official thread)

My cousin was this kid's teacher. Apparently he was a super nice kid who was struggling to get his grades up. Unfortunately that's the story of South Carolina education...from what I witnessed. Prayers to the fam and friends.

Watch: Kenny takes the plunge on Cedar Point’s new record-breaking Valravn

Cedar Point gave a sneak peek of its new record-breaking dive coaster, Valravn at a media preview Wednesday morning.

The Valravn is the world's tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster. It's the 18th for Cedar Point.

The coaster carries riders 20 stories up to the top of a 223-foot-tall hill, then free falls 214 feet for four seconds at a vertical, 90-degree angle reaching a top speed of 75 miles per hour.

The ride then flips passengers upside down into a half loop, then a half roll before another drop zone. Riders plunge 125 feet at a near 90-degree angle. Then it twists upside down twice more, loops and rolls before coming to a stop.
.
.
.
The ride is breaking 10 world records:

1.Tallest dive coaster (223 feet)

2.Fastest dive coaster (75 mph)

3.Longest dive coaster (3,415 feet)

4.Most inversions on a dive coaster (three)

5.Longest drop on a dive coaster (214 feet)

6.Highest inversion on a dive coaster (165 feet)

7.Most roller coasters taller than 200 feet at one amusement park (5)

8.Most rides at one amusement park (71)

9.Most steel roller coaster track at one amusement park (52,125 feet/9.9 miles)

10.Most roller coaster track at one amusement park (60,110 feet/11.4 miles)

I am at Cedar point with the boy. I can verify that Valravn is a terrific coaster. I can also verify that Steel Vengeance is, hands-down, the best roller coaster I have ever ridden. By far. So very very very far!

To think that they took the harsh and unenjoyable Mean Streak and transformed it into such a playful and delightful ride is hard to believe. If you like roller coasters, you owe it to yourself to take this ride. I give it :bow::bow::bow::bow:

(Edit)
p.s. Ride it at night. If you can't see what's coming it's even better!

Thing 2 and I are heading for a two day fast pass coaster extravaganza in August. Can not wait.

Bringing my family from Seattle to The Point in early August this year... we're also going by The Shoe and campus on a whirlwind tour of God's Country.

Any recommendations on places to stay that don't charge by the hour and won't force me to get a second mortgage on my house?

I swear by the Motel 6 on Rye Beach Rd in Huron. I've stayed there I think 6 different nights in the last 6 months and never have any issues. Clean and affordable.

The only real complaint is the the proximity to a set of very busy train tracks.

For CP, I've stayed at most of the chain hotels in the 250 area at one point, and the better ones were the Comfort Inn, Best Western (formerly Comfort Suites when I stayed there), Hampton Inn, and Fairfield Inn just past 2. There are several chain places closer, but they're all older buildings, though still nice enough (stayed at the Baymont just before Cedar Point Rd/the Causeway when it was a Comfort Inn and it was nice enough considering its age).

For Columbus, I've only ever stayed at 2 places, the Comfort Inn at Polaris (right next to Magic Mountain), and then the Comfort Suites on 17th by the fairgrounds/MAPFRE. Comfort Inn was definitely nicer (again, newer), but the Comfort Suites was perfectly fine and is closer to campus.

Maybe I'm not using the search tool properly, but I could not find a thread on Cedar Point. How can this be possible on an Ohio forum?

I spent a summer working at the park after my freshman year of college. Best summer of my life. I do my best to get back every year or two.

I've dragged my sons up there a few times this year so far through the park's Wildcard pass, which was $10 more than a regular day pass and unlimited visits through June. My older son and I went up yesterday late afternoon (only an hour drive). He hadn't been on Steel Vengeance yet. After a two-hour wait we agreed it was the best coaster they now have in the park.

Love Cedar Point and am so glad it is only a short drive from home for us.

Iron Gwazi is almost ready as Busch Gardens begins testing newest roller coaster

The next roller coaster scheduled to open at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has entered its testing phase.

Test runs for Iron Gwazi began Monday with the theme park offering a peek on its social media sites. The roller coaster replaced its wooden predecessor, which was simply called, “Gwazi.” It first opened in 1999 and closed down in 2015.

According to Busch Gardens, the updated iron version will have riders 206 feet above the ground, reach speeds of 76 miles per hour, and experience a 91-degree drop. The height, theme park officials said, will make it the tallest hybrid wood-steel roller coaster on the continent – surpassing Cedar Point’s 205-foot Steel Vengeance.

"It's North America's tallest and the world's fastest and the world's steepest hybrid coaster," Andrew Schaffer, the Director of Design at Busch Gardens, said in January.
