CBF40's breakdown of the NIU game.

One guy hurt us yesterday, a guy who happens to be the best RB in the nation and far and away the best we will see this year. Wolfe is an out and out stud, so I would not be too concerned by him racking up yardage on a defense with most of their guys playing their first games.

IMO Charles is just about as good and he is going to be running behind a much better Oline. That has me concerned. Hopefully these young kids step up and let us get back to the silver bulletts of old.

No he's not.

Wolfe put up 285 yards with average (at best) offensive line play, and a QB who had shit his pants after the INT.

There is not one player in the country who could have done what Wolfe did.

I beg to differ here. Your WR's were not open and he was under a lot of pressure all day.

I agree the D is a concern, but I don't think that coverage is a concern.
Go back and watch the tape. There were people open. Britt Davis was (alone) open 4 times and didn't get the ball.

Part of the reasons Horvath didn't find the guys is because of the pressure on him. A more composed QB finds them. However a freshman making his 1st real start, probably won't be that composed.

Your gameplan was to fluster Horvath, and you accomplished that.

What accomplishment am I trying to squeeze out of it? Your gameplan worked.

I could definately see you using a similar gameplan against a young, inexprienced QB.
no chance it will be that vanilla. No stunting, soft zone, etc.

Wolfe put on a show in space... and your coaches used our aggressive, young D against themselves.

the difference between Wolfe and Charles is that Charles might have more straight line speed, but Wolfe has him beat hands down when it comes to balance and shiftiness... and Wolfe uses his blockers very well...

Wolfe is better than any running back we faced in 2005. That doesn't mean I have no concerns about Buckeye tackling, but Wolfe will make a lot of defenses look silly this year. NIU scored only one TD against us, so that's a positive.

BTW, I have not been as impressed by a first-game freshman performance (Ross Homan's) since Mike Doss. Homan will be a great one. Gholston looked terrific, as did Freeman IMO (except for the 5-yd-line fiasco with Wolfe, of course).

The most impressive throws were the TDs to Ginn and Gonzo. He knew exactly where the receiver was suppossed to be and delivered. He threw with zip, he threw with touch and he put it out where his speed backs could get to it. Let Texas figure out if he can't run.

Last year I liked the 'horns because they put the ball in the hands of their best player on every play. This year the Buckeye's have that advantage.
