Cbf40's Breakdown of Iowa beating.

crazybuckfan40

Head Coach
Back with the fifth installment of this years season. Well once again I don't have a VCR so the breakdown #'s will have to wait till next week.

Offense:

Well we didnt take long to get on track this week and we kept it going all game.

QB's: A+

Smith was back to his Heisman like form again. He played a very effecient game and led the team and his leadership is so obvious on the field.

RB's: A+

Pittman - Once again Pitt but up big numbers and had some huge runs. He is quickly making a name for him for postseason awards...

Beanie Wells - Can we say breaking out of the shell. The shell finally did more than crack. He was coming out of that shell. He was hitting the hole and running over people like we all know he is capable of. He is going to be a fun one to watch here.

WR's - A+

Ginn - No tds but he had a number of catches and was just his usual self. I think next week is the week he gets lose on a kick return.

Gonzo - I know Gonzo was good last year, but he has improved so much that I might call him the most improved player on the Offense. The moves he made on his second td were just sick.

Robo - Well it looks like he likes the endzone as he found it again.

Hall - Nice to see him catch a td.

Hartline - That block on Gonzo's td was very nice.

TE/FB: - A-

Nicol - another solid day blocking, and wasnt used as much in the passing game. I think we will see him more this week.

White - solid

OL - Incomplete.

Well once agian I can't really breakdown the o-line without tape, but I do know that they controlled the game up front as Smith was not under any pressure at all. Also the holes for Pittman and Wells were huge. It really looked like Boone and Rehring were just collapsing the left side and allowing Pittman to bust it outside.

Another day at the office for the O. They are just so dynamic that they can do anything. They can pound you on the ground, or spread it out and throw all over the field.

K's:

AP and Trappasso both had solid days again.

Defense:

Like I said I don't have the drive totals and all that today. What I do know is that we forced 4 TO's. We had some bad lapses at times with missed tackles, but overall we made big plays when we had too. The worst part about the game was losing ARus. You have to feel bad for him, and hopes that he has a full recovery.

49 pts in 5 games is outstanding.

DE's - A+

Once again they played strong football. Gholston is also on a fastrack to some postseason awards. The one armed tackle I saw him have on Albert Young was a thing of beauty.

DT's: A+

Once again these guys are in the backfield before the qb is back to set up. They are the ones that are helping force all these TO's with the way they are collapsing the pocket up the middle.

LB's: B

Once again hard to get without film. I do know that they struggled at times and made some big plays. I really don't have anything to say besides Freeman's INT was an awesome play and it is obvious why he is in the Nickel packagae and JL has 4 picks in 4 games. That is awesome.

S's: Incomplete

Well the lose of ARus really hurts. He was coming into his own and becoming a mainstay, but he unfortunatly was injured.

JamO - reminds me so much of Donte Whitner when he got his first pt were he would look lost and then he would make a play. JamO struggled at times, but the light is flickering and about right to stay on full time. I think he has first round potential, but it is just a matter of how fast the light clicks on and stays on.

B. Mitch - I thought he played a good game and was all over the field. He also got that big INT.

CB's: A-

Jenks was his normal self, but ASmith and Washington struggled at times, but that is too be expected with a vetran QB and the inexperience, but overall they were solid.

Good Things:

- We didnt let the atmosphere bother us at all.

- We came, We saw, We kicked ass!!!!!!!!!!!

- The O-line, they controlled the game.

- Pittman, Wells

- The pressure from the d-line.

- 4 TO's!!!!!!!!

Negatives:

- The D at times game up too many big plays.

- Still not seeing the LB play...But it is coming...

- No tape

Overall we played a great team game, and really beat the shit out of Iowa. I know that if we came out early and put it on them we would be ok and that was what we did. Well next wekk we have BG. I expect somewhat of a letdown early, but BG is just not a very good team. I think we will have no problem putting up 40+ pts in this one and should hold them under 2 td's. I think if we keep playing solid football we are on a fast track to meet and undefeated scUM if the can get by PSU.

Maybe it's just me, but I love the bend but don't break defense we've been playing. Last year, the D was stellar, but didn't get enough of the game-changing swings a fumble or INT gets you. This year, though we're giving up a couple big plays a game, the D steps up right when you need them to.

I'd give the O-line an A+ (our standards are pretty high...what's a bad grade, B-?). One sack allowed that I can think of, maybe 2 QB hurries. Smith is really coming on and it seems like he's blending his "ballin'" capabilities along with his pocket-passing abilities to its highest potential. Granted, Iowa ran a really, really vanilla defense, but once teams drop safties and LB's into coverage and they're only bringing 3 or 4 on the line, watch out for a QB option to get some serious yardage. Smith's only knock is he's getting around 2-3 passes batted down on average. So far one of them has been picked but the others have been mighty close to causing a turnover...I'm ecstatic that that's the only thing we can critique in Smith's performance.

Dan Connor picked off a batted ball on the first snap of the second half of StatePenn game...

I give Troy an "A"

A+ would come if he can hit the deep ball again. That's two or 3 times this year we've openned up early with a deep ball that has been overthrown (or perhaps this is a case where the receiver got jammed...I don't know), but I wish we'd connect on the big play.

Having said that, his leadership just seems so strong and positive. The way he marshals the team is just beautiful to watch...especially in light of the long road he has travelled to get here.

I do agree, that it would be a high grade, but I would have to go back and see the film to make any decisions on individuals, but overall the line was opening up massive holes and giving Smith all kinds of time to throw.

As for the batted balls the Olineman need to help in getting the defenders hands down by punching them in the gut.

just two comments both of them random pretty much.

seems like we conitnue to play almost 60 players a game. a good thing to me, more experience, more compettion, and gives some guys some blows.

it will be interesting to see how many sunday players troy is playing with, i more and more inclined to say of the 15 or so who are seeing solid minutes double digits of them are likely to have multiple year careers in the league.

At this point in time, I don't see any reason why any player on the Offense doesnt get drafted. Maybe not a sustain career, but I would think all will be drafted or on a team at somepoint.

RBs - duh, Mo Wells is only a sophmore and has plenty of time to develop the talent he has.

WR's - Another duh. Besides maybe Dukes, but once again he has only seen limited time and he will continue to develop his talent.

TE's - Nicol is a beast blocking and is only a sophmore. Plenty of time to develop.

OL- Boone - duh , Rehring - duh, Datish - duh, Downing - duh, Barton - duh just plz not after this year.
