CB Travis Howard (Official Thread)

It's funny ow this could end up being a lot like the Chekwa situation. As we are there scouting a highly regarded recruit (here Sabino, then Richard Jackson), we find another unheralded guy in Howard (then Chekwa) on the same team. Our staff just has an eye for raw talent and the know how to develop them into great players.

I think they may have similar talents as players, but you can't really compare their recruitments. Chekwa's only other offers were from UCF and USF. Howard has some bigtime offers and got them pretty early. I've also seen him ranked as one of the top 10 CBs in the entire country.

Just because he is relatively unknown guy to Buckeye fans doesn't really mean he is an under the radar guy nationally like Chekwa was.

I actually was comparing how the staff discovered them as being similar. I actually have checked out Travis's offer list, though.

We're on the same page. I guess I only disagreed with one word of the original post, which was your description of Howard as "unheralded." I only brought up his offer list and ranking to counter that.

I just think it is an amazing year when we are having to think long and hard about whether we are going to offer big time guys like Howard who are top 10 at their position and have offers from the Big 3 in Florida. Just a few years ago, he would have been a surefire offer if he wanted to visit. We are choosing who to offer from such a higher caliber group of players this year than any year i can remember.

What is your thoughts on our how high our interest is in Howard grad? From what I have read and heard, some think Howard might be the best player on Krop's team. Seems like he could be a real steal and I always love getting those Florida players.

I would like to reiterate this question for the BPRT. Any thoughts on tOSUs interest considering the upcoming visit? Possible offer made?

Maybe the staff wanted to see how things shook out with some other guys, and with Floyd's commitment to ND, that may open up Howard's scholarship. But, that is great to hear we are on top now!!

I totally agree.. Brandon Harris is a fine player, but if he doesnt end up at Miami I'll be totally shocked.. It's great he may visit, but I wouldnt hold off on Howard because we are waiting on Harris.. If staff has other reasons than fine, but I think Travis Howard is one of the fastest rising prospects in South Florida right now, not to mention his ties to Sabino..

I hope we offer soon

Travis says his visit to Columbus moved the Buckeyes to the top of his list. He is hoping for a written offer from tOSU but already holds offers from Miami, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

You gotta love it that we're in position to be number 1 with a prospect who has an offer list like that even though he doesn't have an offer from us yet.

On a side note, who do you think gets offered first? Him or Greg Scruggs?
