CB Lorenzo Styles Jr. (National Champion)

Not selling him short. He wanted to be here and has put in the work, no doubt. He's certainly an example for the younger guys to follow and I imagine the staff will hold him up as an exemplar. That's the rub, though. He wasn't a 5-star, top-ranked corner. That's who's behind him. If they actually follow his example, he will eventually get passed, but he's got limited eligibility left and maybe he plays that out with significant minutes, if not as a starter.

Styles is the one tearing it up on special teams rn, not the guys behind him. IIRC he’s been special teams player of the game two weeks in a row. I don’t remember a coverage guy ever doing that before.

But then I don’t remember seeing a guy make the tackle on kick offs so consistently
hartline started out and made a name for himself on special teams way back in the day, iirc?

This is a guy that started as a WR at ND. Now, being a CB, it proves that he has exceptional athleticism. As a ST player and in his limited playing time at CB
he has flashed. Let's remember that he is first to go in when Hancock is out. Count me in as far as not selling him short.
if i recall OSU recruited him as a DB but at the time he was dead set on playing WR and ND let him do that

I said he’s an example to the younger kids, that includes special teams play, and that IF they lived up to that example, they’d eventually pass him. The fact that they haven’t yet played up to his example on special teams doesn’t negate that statement.

  • Styles said he would have never imagined he’d be playing cornerback at Ohio State against Notre Dame in the national championship back when he was playing wide receiver for the Fighting Irish, but said he’s excited for the opportunity and that he still has “a lot of respect” for Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame program.
  • “There’s a lot of similarities in between both programs,” Styles said of Ohio State and Notre Dame. He said he recalls going through tug-of-war drills at Notre Dame and that’s something he’s thought about as he prepares for one-on-one matchups against some of those same players on Monday.
  • On Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard: “I think his physicality, his athleticism, his toughness shows up on the tape.” Styles said Leonard’s running ability presents a challenge for Ohio State’s defense.
  • Styles said he and Jack Sawyer have been friends since they were 7 years old growing up together in Pickerington. He said Sawyer has helped push him to become his best self and he hopes he’s done the same for Sawyer.
  • Asked who’s the best basketball player on the team, Styles said it’s either JT Tuimoloau or his older brother Sonny.
  • Styles said his conversations with his former Notre Dame teammates this week have been short-lived. “I told them I can’t be talking to the enemy for too long.”
  • Styles’ girlfriend goes to Notre Dame, but he said she’ll be rooting for Ohio State on Monday. “We actually had a conversation about this, so she should be in Ohio State gear if anyone sees her.”
