CB E.J. Underwood (transfer to Pikeville)

Was it EJ or Whitner that knocked Pittman's helmet off in the spring game? I was thinking EJ. Let's hope he brings some of that to the table tomorrow and for the whole season for that matter.<!-- / message --><!-- controls -->
It was Whitner who knocked his helmet off, but EJ might have been in on the tackle, im not sure.

Well... let's hope Deion didn't give him any tackling pointers, or how to become his own personal hype machine. I'm sure Tressel would love EJ coming out and talking like Deion used to shoot his mouth off. Hey, at least most people bought into it.
4.27? Getting closer to that Moss record every year... :ohwell:

Deion gets a bad rap because of his showmanship, but I've heard a lot of his former teamates say on TV/radio that he's one of the best teamates they've ever had. I've also heard stories about what a generous guy he is off the field.

That whole Prime Time act is just that - an act. And it, along with his exceptional athletic skills, has made him and his family A LOT of money. It's tough to blame a guy for doing that.

his on the field image was simply that....an image. he used it to become famous. i guess he didnt think a quiet cover corner with amazing skills was enough (he was probly right, name 1 quiet cover corner).

i heard off the field hes a nice guy.

Maybe he is--but I've never seen him off the field. Preception is reality.
Another thing: everyone refers to good corners as 'cover corners'? Do we ever call linebackers 'tackle linebackers'? Or 'sack lineman'? What's the difference between Deion and... Nate Clements? or me? That statement's always confused me... clarifications?

A CB that plays primarily zone would not be referred to as a "cover corner". Cover corners are known for their ability to play man-to-man and take a receiver out of the game.

Deion was a "cover corner" if there ever was one. It remains to be seen how much "cover corner" he has left in him.

Nate Clements isn't that great at 'covering'. He is a good all-around corner(includes tackling). And yes, different terms are used to define other players as well. Pass rusher or run stopper, run stopping linebacker, or safety. Even cover linebacker is used. Same goes for offense. Posession or speed receiver, pocket passer or running QB, speed back or power back. Pass blocker or run blocker. Everybody gets labeled.

An old friend of mine played in the minor leagues with Deon. He said that he was a great guy, but he wasn't always fan friendly. That was his early days and it seems like he became less glitz and more substance over time.

Great story. Maybe it will become less fashionable for some Buckeye fans to hate on Deion.

Yeah, the "Prime Time" act got old, but it was just marketing. If he were really a self-centered egomaniac, would he bother getting to know an unproven kid at Ohio State? Just contrast that to what publicity hound Jim Brown did with MoC. :roll2:

Here's to both EJ and Deion opening up some eyes this year.
