CB Devon Torrence (official thread)

You are saying that if he was a top10 pick out of high school that he would still sign with OSU to play football thereby risking millions of dollars to injury?

While I would love for that to happen, I find it hard to believe. From what I have read, his potential for going the baseball route in addition to his lack of test score are the reasons he hasnt gotten an offer yet.

He wants to play baseball at OSU too...my understanding is that Devon realizes that the MLB is always going to be there, but his opportunity to run out of the tunnel and onto the field in the Shoe will not be.

Well then I say, good for him and welcome to the S&G [when he receives his offer]. I am as excited as anyone at this thought. I was just reiterating what I read from an insider who was very close to the situation. Thanks for your perspective.

From a fan perspective, I can't stand pro-baseball but the salary numbers and career longevity are levels above as compared to college/pro football. Adam Dunn is a perfect example of this, he signed an LOI to play QB for Texas but when baseball came calling out of high school as a second round pick [$800,000 signing bonus in 99 I believe], he completely changed his mind and went the baseball route. I cannot say that I wouldnt have made the same decision. Here Torrence is being talked about as a possible 3rd-5th round pick after only his sophomore season.

Torrence talks about his possible future in baseball. Admits if the money was right, he could make the jump. He loves both sports equally. Torrence wants to play both in college. Ohio State, Miami, Florida State and Notre Dame are currently at the top of his list. Will camp at Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Nebraska.

"Devon sees himself as a DB on the next level. When asked about his favorites list, Devon said tOSU and only tOSU as he is not interested in any other school. He declined an invitation to Michigan's camp."

After reading through some of what has been posted about Devon, WOW!
Hope he gets an offer! We need athletes that want to wear the scarlet and gray.

Obviously I didn't pay close enough attention last year to the time frame of offers to the coming class. What if any hold up might there be with his offer? He sounds like a can't miss prospect. I feel like a broken record as I have inquired about M.Williams in the same respect.

The feeling is Torrence will get his offer once he takes the ACT or SAT. Of course this was discussed specifically in posts 118, 119, 128, 129 and you even replied to these posts in post 133. Please take the time to read through the threads and you'll usually find the answer to your questions.

From OhioVarsity.com...Devon talks about being named to Rivals Top 100 for 2007. He talks about his favorites (Illinois, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State) and again clearly names OSU as his favorite.
