The Buckeyes have just offered star athlete DerJuan Gambrell from Toledo as per Scout. This is his second offer, the first being from Toledo. Said that he has grown up a Buckeye fan. Will go through the process and will take his time before making a decision.

Gambrell is soft spoken by nature & the OSU offer left him nearly speechless... He was shocked & excited at the same time... He's been receiving a lot of interest from scUM but the OSU offer appears to move them to the top of his list... Part of him wants to jump at the offer but he will probably hold off until he can see some more schools...

Since his sophomore season, Gambrell has started somewhere & mostly played both ways for his HS team... He was a first team all Toledo selection last year & also runs track... More quotes about being conflicted but almost assuredly committing to Ohio State at some point...

That's kind of the impression I get as well from reading the Rivals update. He says he wants to talk to some other coaches and wait for the offer to sink in, but I think once he talks it over with the family, he decides pretty quick.

I see this as a situation where the eventual offer sheet might not match his true potential...now that OSU has offered, several schools that would have offered are likely to bail out to save face. This kid was on the verge of blowing up according to those that know...

DerJuan Gambrell Track and Field Profile

Has run a 7.14 in the 60-meter.
Has run a 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Cleared 5-10 in the high jump.

And a scouting report:

Super athlete with excellent overall movement skills. Very dynmaic and explosive with quick feet. Long strider who covers a lot of ground in a hurry. Excellent speed on track as well. Good tackler as well but not overly physical. Very versatile could help at SE, slot or DB.

More new 2011 offers

The other offer caught me off guard. Athlete Derjuan Gambrell from Toledo Rogers is a relative unknown. I had never heard of him until I learned of the offer. I like what I see on film. He is a classic free safety. He has a safety body. He is long and lean at 6-2 and 180 with very long arms. I call him an athlete but the offer is as a safety. He is so impressive on the ball and after the catch that I could see him being given a shot at receiver. I do not have him in my top five defensive backs right now but this is not a reach. He is a nice player. I don't expect him to wait too long to verbal either.

The Buckeyes are still way out in front & Gambrell is thinking about when he wants to make a commitment... It could be by the end of Spring but his indoor & outdoor track seasons may delay it a bit... Gambrell has struck up a relationship with Kenny Hayes... They talk & text a lot now & are starting to hang out together...
