CB Bryce West (Official Thread)

THE HURRY-UP: BRYCE WEST WOULD ENJOY PRACTICING AGAINST JEREMIAH SMITH IF HE GOES TO OHIO STATE, TRENTON WILSON ENJOYS HIS SPRING GAME VISIT

Ohio State continues to prioritize Ohio cornerback Bryce West in the 2024 class.

The four-star Glenville cornerback also continues to be high on the Buckeyes in his recruitment, thoroughly enjoying a two-day visit to Columbus earlier this month on April 3 and 4.

“It was a great visit,” West told Eleven Warriors. “It opened my eyes a lot, I have been (to OSU) so many times so I already knew what it was like, but it was even more of a better experience this time because I was more around the coaching staff because I was there for a two-day visit. So you got to really see what the experience was like.”

West attended OSU’s practice with fellow Ohio cornerback Aaron Scott, another priority target on the Buckeyes’ 2024 recruiting board.
“It was a fun experience because usually every time he and I go on college visits, we’re never there at the same time,” West said. “So us being there on that visit, you could see they brought two of their top targets in. We were able to talk about college and just like life.”

As it stands, Ohio State currently has 12 commitments and boasts the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the nation. But 10 of those 12 players are offensive prospects, and there’s been a big push to complement the class with defensive playmakers. Some of that push has come from OSU’s commits themselves, with five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith openly recruiting both West and Scott. West said having Smith push for him to join him at Ohio State was humbling.

“I’ve been talking to Jeremiah for a while, even before he was committed,” West said. “He’s a very talented wide receiver. Him reaching out like that, I wouldn’t say it puts pressure on you, but it makes you want to go to a school like that because that’s the No. 1 wide receiver in the country and he’s a very hard person to guard. He can make you better every day at practice and get you right.”

Teddy Ballgame remains my all-time favorite Buckeye. From the time he committed to us at the AA Game all the way to his last play in the S&G (and then his NFL career). Now he is actively recruiting Glenville players? Heck to the yes. West was likely going to end up a Buckeye anyways, but I appreciate Teddy being in our corner.

I really want to see West and Scott locked in before the fall. I think that will happen, but it would put some minds at ease...at bare minimum you would have West and Scott to follow CSH and Mathews...that is a crazy deep CB room in the future and we will probably add one national type (Woodyard, Lockhart, etc.) since I think the number at CB will be three. Maybe four if the right guys sign up, but probably three and then the rest will be safeties or a hybrid.

Hope this doesn't become a Robert Smith/Ricky Powers situation. Both elite RBs from Ohio, and once Robert committed to tOSU, Ricky went to TSUN. Note entirely certain what happened to Ricky, but know his light didn't shine as brightly as Robert's did. Yeah, would like to have them both become tOSU DBs, but sounds like West is keeping low profile (silent verbal - I hope?), while Scott is in the headlines, galavanting around the country, visiting other schools, especially TSUN. Recruiting is probably as unpredictable as anything can get. Go Bucks!

Ahhh, recruiting intrigue. Been hoping that both West and Scott commit sooner than later, one, hate the suspense, and two, might help the safeties out there to commit to the Buckeyes. Know it usually work that way, but might start the dominoes tumbling. Bolden sounds like a UGA lean, which may help Woodyard tip our way. tOSU has a bunch of safeties waiting their turn, but so do the other big boys. Go Bucks!
