Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Not this year, but I'd love to see it happen tonight.

Why?

Wade is really the perfect player. If he shoots a jump shot, and you ALMOST touch him, its a foul.

If he drives the lane out of control and bowls over everything in his way, its a blocking foul.

And then after you can't ALMOST touch him, or get in his way, if he can actually hit his jumpers, he is unstoppable.

I would say put Lebron on him, because we all know he could shut him down.

But I dont want Lebron to foul out with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

Never seems that way against the Cavs. Wade should have 5 fouls now.

I agree with you on that.

If you look at the top 5 in the league in Free Throw attempts, it reads:

1. Dwight Howard (PF/C)
2. Lebron James (SF)
3. Kevin Durant (SF)
4. Chris Bosh (SF/PF)
5. Dwayne Wade (SG)

The thing that sticks out is that Wade is the only guard in the top five.

And if you shake it down to free throw attempts per game (negating time missed due to injury and any extra games either might have played), then Lebron sits at 9.8, and Wade sits at 9.1

I guess my overall point is that while this game is a terrible piece of officiating, on the whole Lebron and Dwayne get the same amount of calls. Lebron gets 1 more a game because his game is not perimeter oriented for the most part.

Removing bias for a second, Lebron actually has 40 more free throw attempts on the season than does Wade. But this game so far has been ridiculous.

The Cavs have played 2 more games then the heat but it is close Lebron is avg 9.6 ft's a game and Wade is avg 9.3, but after this game he might over take him.

Lebron earns his fouls, and could easily get more calls then he already does.

Wade doesnt. Thats the issue.

Thats what makes him almost unwatchable to me.

I hate Kobe. But I respect the hell out of Kobes game and realize he is one of the best of all time.

I hate Wade. But I do not respect his game. Because if free throws didnt exist, he would be an average to above average player.

I don't know if there's any way to prove this, but I believe these two things based on anecdotal evidence:

  • LeBron gets fouled harder than Wade on a consistent basis. I've heard it said that coaches and players feel that it's necessary to try to deny easy shots and layups against his superior strength. Even legit fouls on Wade would be less likely to register with LeBron. Conversely, when LeBron is fouled it's more obvious because they have to foul him harder so he doesn't just play through it.
  • I suspect (but can't prove) that a higher percentage of LeBron's free throws come from bonus situations rather than shooting fouls. What that would indicate to me is that Wade would be more likely to get his FTs by getting calls to make up for missed contested shots, while LeBron is getting his FTs off any ordinary foul, but he gets shots out of it because guys like Shaq, Andy & Mo are making other teams work and putting the Cavs in the bonus. Who on Miami besides Dwayne Wade is contributing to putting that team in the bonus? Beasley? Not yet. Jermaine O'Neal? Please.
