Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

The Knicks aren't close to competing and are a joke of a franchise (see Danilo Gallinari/ Renaldo Balkman). Is he really going to reunite with Larry Hughes? Plus with him living close to here all of his life, and the fact that he is going to be a global icon and rich as hell wherever he is, he will stay in Cleveland regardless of whether the Cavs when a championship next year. However, if they don't have any homecourt advantage and tank next year and don't reach the conference finals thats different.
That's my concern. I don't think they will tank at all, but I think at the very least reaching the finals next year is huge.

There are several things to give me reason for at least a little optimism. The impending Chinese deal to ficilitate breaking into another culture, the financial flexibility to add another star in '10 along side him (and really, if LBJ re-ups, who wouldn't be interested in joining him?), the hometown angle, an owner and GM with a strong commitment to winning. The opportunity to bring a title to a town so championship starved...

That said, yeah, the Knicks are a mess right now, but they will also have the financial flexibility to add another big name along side LBJ in '10. Boston proved last year, teams are often closer to winning than may appear.

I don't want to get too into it. Right now, I just want to enjoy the ride while he's (definately) here.

Danny Ferry I wouldnt blame

however Mike Brown should be getting some blame here
Absolutely, but I've seen people calling for his head, which is just silly. He's limited as a head coach, but this year they made the right move and brought in some assistants to lighten the load and until this series, it worked brilliantly. If you're going to heap blame on Brown, you have to give some to them as well. They did do a very poor job of adjusting at times, but at least some of those times, the magic were so hot, I don't know what could have been done. One bad series does not negate what they did up until that point. Again, coming into this season, I thought they were maybe the 3rd best team in the East behind Boston and Orlando. They surpassed all my expectations and won 66 games and got to the conference finals. I think we all ignored some obvious weaknesses by getting wrapped up in a very enjoyable season. There's still work to be done, but this team is very close.

Getting 3 future HOF'ers usually helps that....yeah.
They added two, Pierce was already there. But, my point is adding LBJ and another player like a Bosh could very well make the Knicks immediately competitive, even without a player of Pierce's calibre on the team already.

The hardest part is waiting. Not even through the offseason (which really isn' THAT long). The rough part is going to be 82 games for me. I mean it takes a long time to count to 82, let alone play 48 minutes 82 times. :(
Add in the fact that what they do in the regular season is, for the most part, meaningless. It's about Championships in the end.

It really won't matter to me. They can win 72 games, have home-court advantage, and LeBron win another MVP (all GREAT things, no doubt), but I'll still sit here and wait to be proven wrong about what will inevitably happen in the playoffs. Just the Cleveland fan in me.

Hopefully we'll have a somewhat eventful offseason. I have a hard time believing after the magic exposed such obvious flaws, and having the bargaining chips the Cavs do to make some moves, that some significant moves won't be made.

Haha even if they could do the impossible and get him- I don't think I'd like it. The swinging elbows got to me, and I really can't stand Dwight Howard. Seems likable off the court, just not on.

I know you don't like Orlando and all, so it's understandable and I get where you're coming from, but that's the kind of guy I'd like to have on my side.

[/devil's advocate]

I think we all need to give Orlando the credit they deserve for beating the best team the Cavs have ever had.

But, to the extent that the Magic does not deserve credit, all of the rest of the blame lays at the feet of Mike Brown.
