Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Those three were gonna help with what exactly next season?

I don't think anybody that was available in that spot is somebody you could count on to have an impact right now. Also in the meantime I think Ferry has earned my trust until he proves I should think otherwise.

All that said, I'd like to see the Cavs buy some picks and get some more players with length.

they could have at least had a shot to help.... not specifically make a huge impact, but I think either one of them could have at least given some decent minutes

taking a dude who was likely a LATE 2nd rounder in the first round is not a good pick

I don't see how Shaq fills the void that got the Cavs beaten by Orlando. A big old slow guy - which is what he is at this point - only perpetuates their shortcomings up front.

I'm not sure what the hell they're doing.

Shaq can guard Howard 1 on 1 around the hoop, which nobody on the roster could do this season so they kept doubling and leaving someone wide open. They either need to bring in someone that can cover Lewis or another guard so that Lebron can guard Lewis. If the Magic replace HT with Carter the Cavs matchups get better. West isn't as big of a mismatch with Carter. Now they just need one more 6'5"+ defender that can hit some shots.

They need to worry about more than just the Magic. The team lacked length/athleticism at the 2 & 4 spots last year. Hopefully they can address one in the draft and the other with free agency/trade.

I guess they bought Jackson last year after the draft. If they have the money they can wait to see how everything pans out and then buy the player they want. It seems like they are going to have some roster spots to fill this year.

I don't think you can slot players that easily - especially this late in the draft. Blair is supposedly the 14th best player in this draft, and nobody has picked him yet. Somebody thought Hansbrough is gonna be worth a damn. The perceived value of players and picks isn't as rigid as it is in the NFL as you move down in the draft.

Also, if this is a cap maneuver like some have speculated I would like to reiterate my trust in the front office. They have done an excellent job managing the cap while improving the team.

Besides, at the rate this thing is going one or more of those "first-round" players might still be around at #46.

I guess it makes some sense if its a cap manuever

but they probably could have taken a better player to stash away abroad for a few years

this is definately a money motivated move.

by taking this guy at #30 and stashing him overseas, if cleveland takes another guy in the 2nd to take that roster spot, they save about $750,000 this year, and possibly as much as $1 million in 2010.

As an FYI, the Boston Celtics have traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. They gave up Al Jefferson, Wally Szrebiak, and Delonte West among other players and picks.

Just thought I'd let you know since the NBA is so fuckin slow at reporting these deals. Every time I hear a trade deal, it's something the analysts had reported 30 minutes earlier....

you can't just throw players overseas. it doesn't work that way. they needed to find a euro that was a project and would stay overseas to make it work. if they take young or blair, they can't just send them over to europe.
