Caught in traffic on 670 East today?

rocketman

flying low
If so...guess what...it was all my fault.

I was heading to Easton going east on I-670 with two other friends. When I realized I was on the wrong side of the 71 split, I made a quick lane change over the zebras. Hit a huge patch of gravel and lost control.

Had it not been for 2 days I spent at the race track a year ago making my car do these exact same things in a more controlled environment, I most certainly would be dead or not able to post this up right now. When I spun out by reflex I started counter-steering - long enough to avoid jackknifing on the front end of the guard rail at 45 mph. Instead, we did a complete 360 and grazed the side of the rail. None of us were even scratched and the car just has a sizeable dent in it (still completely driveable, for how long I don't know...takin it to the shop tomorrow).

Just hope you guys keep in mind the little things that happen every day that spell the difference between life and death.

Thanks, pal. For future reference, just take 71S to 104 and take 104 across to Hamilton, rather than trying to kill yourself and everyone else. :)

I've never understood that. Why cut across non-driving lanes if you are in an exit-only lane? It's not worth dying over it.

exactly. Always easier to find a way to turn around rather than get yourself or someone else killed

Glad everything worked out okay. I think most of us can recite some similar story where we were either in a wreck and it could have been much worse or just barely avoided one. Happy that you and your passengers are okay and the car and your underwear are the only things worse for wear.

couldn't agree more. i don't care who you "think" you are or where you are going, being on time isn't worth killing someone.

R0CK3TM4NN, i really hope you learned your lesson. what ended today as a simple dent and a few shacken up passengers could have easily ended in 15+ killed in a multiple car pile up. im sure your driving skill played a large part in this incident ending without significant damage. but never forget that no matter how skillful a driver you are, that doesn't help the people around you. just because you are a highly skilled driver capable of correcting a loss of control, it won't stop the soccer mom in her minivan full of kids from panicing over your sudden lane change and launching themselves into a tree. understand this isn't a flame. we've all done equally moronic things behind the wheel. i just want to make sure your aware that what you do on the road affects far more than just "you". and that "your" level of driver skill can't help anyone else on the road other than "you" when things get out of hand.

stay safe out there bud. :)

How much you bet he tries the same thing today?
Yeah, all I need is a more expensive car with better handling qualities and stickier tires and I'll be back at it :roll1:

There was no one even close to my car, but needless to say, it was a dumb decision. Sending it to my brothers friends shop, Evan's Automotive, tomorrow. Should be a fun time - a garage that specializes in Ferraris and Lamborghinis is gonna take a good look at my sweeeeet ride. This whole deal just expedited me getting into the market for a new car. Regardless, I'm gonna keep these crazy stunts on the track from now on.
