  • I have iron in my water at home. The softener removes the iron from the household water but I didn't hook up my hose bibs to the softener as to not waste more softener salt than I have to.

I've noticed over the last year or two that my car has random orange "spots" all over and have consluded it's from the iron in my water.

I asked the guy at Jiffy Lube the other day about anything that may remove the spots and mentioned something he saw on the Speed Channel that you just hook your hose into and spray on to the car.

He mentioned maybe Jegs had it but I'm having some trouble finding it.

Any help is appreciated from resident gearheads.

Use a clay bar to remove the spots.

Then invest into one of those Mr Clean Car wash systems.

I had the same problem and this cleared it right up.

The mr Clean alone will not remove the spot, but will prevent them from showing up again or on new vehicles. I've claybared a brand new car before and made it look better before. They are GREAT!!!

Gearhead checking in. Thump, I think you are describing one of these Clean Cars with Mr. Clean AutoDry Carwash.

It has a builtin filter for hard water (iron) and uses a special Dry Rinse Polymer car wash. I have one and it works well. You don't need to wipe of the water spots after washing, it dries spot free. The iron gets filtered out.

It's not iron, it's groundhog piss.
