Capital One Bowl - Wisconsin 17, Arkansas 14 (Final, Jan. 1, 2007)

i dunno... Arkansas had 400 yards, the Badgers barely crossed the 200 yard mark...

Points are really what matter. Wisconsin held Arkansas to 14 points, the least they've had all year when healthy. Wisconsin plays a bend but don't break style. And if our offense could do something instead of getting continually forced into 3 and outs, they would have had only 7 points. I admit Wisconsin's offense is medicore, but the defense is the real deal. It has to be to overcome the bad offense.

Yes, congrats, the defense definitely lit up the little gimmick package that Arkansas runs...just goes to show it doesn't matter how unorthodox or fast you are, if you have a tough D with solid fundamentals it can be shut down for the most part...Penn State did a nice job of showing that today too. Hill showed very, very little today, but Stocco was certainly a warrior as he was being beaten senseless (Thomas may be great, but the rest of the line certainly isn't), so it was a nice win in a NYD bowl game for you.

Who will pave the holes for Hill next year? I see Wisky at 6-10 in the preseason poll... the media loves offense, and that's not what Wisky's selling point will be.

I'm not a Hill fan. I never have been. I'm hoping/expecting to sign John Clay, and then for him to move ahead of Hill quickly. Clay has the burst that Hill does not. It would be a tragedy if he went to Iowa. I hope he was watching today's game if he was considering Iowa. The only reason he would go there is because of depth chart. Supposedly he made his decision a couple days ago. It should be Wisconsin. Iowa sucks.

I could see 6-10, I'm just saying it should be top 5. We return 17 starters and finish in the top 5 this year. It just makes sense objectively. I like Hodge more than Zalewski. Donovan more than Stocco. My only question are the other offensive playmakers, but they should be better this year regardless. And the safeties as well, both are gone. I'll be curious where Herbstreit ranks Wisconsin in preseason. He sure made a big deal about LSU returning 17 starters.

Analysis of the game from Zemek at CFN. Lots of credit to Bielema, and some blame for Nutt and Mustain's mom.

Arkansas and Wisconsin proved to be physical equals in a punishing gridiron war that left quarterbacks battered and linemen exhausted. But when it was all said and done, the Big Ten bested the SEC thanks to field goal kicking.

I wonder if this was intentional.
