Canadian Football League (Official Thread)

The Edmonton Eskimos are catching some of the fire:

“We acknowledge and appreciate the feedback and input regarding our name. We take this issue seriously as has been demonstrated by the three years we’ve spent engaging in Canada’s north and conducting research related to our name. We recognize that a lot has occurred since this information was gathered, and as a result, we are accelerating our ongoing process of review. We will be seeking further input from the Inuit, our partners and other stakeholders to inform our decisions moving forward. We’ll continue to listen carefully and with an open mind. We intend to complete our review as quickly as possible and will provide an update on these discussions by the end of this month.”

I was today years old when I learned there was a professional football team in Columbus from 1939-1941 - the Columbus Bullies.

In 1941 the Winnipeg Blue Bombers challenged the Bullies to a three-game series, using a mixture of Canadian and American rules. Winnipeg won the first game 19-12 before getting bullied in the next two (6-0 and 31-1). The games were played in Red Bird Stadium, later renamed Cooper Stadium.

The Bullies are one of two American pro teams to lose a game against a Canadian one. The Buffalo Bills are the other, losing (38-21) to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1961.
