Suggesting that people get over the enforcement of open container laws on campus was a "stupid" comment? Okie-dokie, Strohs.

I was a season ticket holder for five years (1983-1988; stuck around for an extra quarter my senior year - fall quarter) and I've gone to 2-3 games each year since. I think having attended over 50 games the last 20+ years gives me some basis for an opinion.

I've tailgated plenty. My roommate's dad had an RV and season tickets, so we were there every Saturday. I just don't share your outrage over the fact that State law is being enforced on a State university campus. If you have to tailgate, I'm sure you can get tickets to a Browns or Bengals game, hit the lot at 7 am and knock yourself out. Unfortunately, Ohio State is a school with a football team, not the other way around.

The fact is, there are parties all around the Lane area before, during, and after the game. That's usually where you'll find me. The beer isn't cheap, which is why some guys "tailgate" with a case of beer in the 7-Eleven parking lot, trying to suck it all down before it gets warm. Ah, yes, now there's a fine "university tradition" for you.

Anyway, this thread suggests that Holbrook's biggest affronts to University "tradition" are raising admissions standards and enforcing open container laws. Can you believe the nerve of that woman?

I can almost hear the press conference now...

"After numerous complaints from football fans regarding the tailgating issue and other such improprieties it was necessary to relieve President Holbrook of her duties, effective immediately. We simply cannot have someone who insists our police officers enforce open container laws on public property, and attempts to raise the academic bar for admission, in charge of our fine institution. Such outrageous actions do not represent and uphold the traditions and standards of The Ohio State University."

But you forgot "and is trying to remove all sense of identity the school has in an effort to make the school the new location for the Josephinium to train catholic priests."

Criminy, if you're an example of what passes for an Ohio State senior these days, it's apparent to me the standards have fucking dropped since I graduated. No wonder she's pushing to raise the academic requirements.

That kid isnt a Sr. at Ohio State and you know it, hes full of BS.
And seeing as how the academic standards have improved every year for many years now, I highly doubt the standards have "fucking droppped" since you graduated.

Actually, you are wrong but ultimately right.

You are wrong in that Ohio State has one of the top ranked mathematics departments in the USA. http://www.math.hmc.edu/misc/gradschools.html.

You are right in that it doesn't matter how good a program is, learning ultimately depends on the student. Anyone who would place a post like this on a site that is dedicated to people who support Ohio State probably would get just as much from Toledo.

And by all means, feel free to do so.

here's a hint, smart guy: it's not a good idea to come to a site that supports The Ohio State University and trash that University. perhaps you SHOULD go to Toledo... or better yet, tansfer to scUM, i think you'd fit right in...

Steve19, not trashing your support, but those rankings were ranked in order according to the National Research Council's Research-Doctorate Programs in the United States, published in 1995. I wonder if the math department has gained ground on others since then...

I am sorry if i offended anyone on here. I was stating my honest opinion about Ohio State the school... I know from my experience my last few years that OSU dosn't care much about undergrad students compaired to how much "research" they do... I wasn't told this when i came to visit. I am pretty pissed off about all of the talk about raising standards of students. I think before that is done we need to raise the standards for profs. I don't care what type of research is being done if i can't understand my DifEQ professor or TA. The smartest guy in the world in some area can be the worst teacher of it.
