Campaigning for Cowher '08

The Redskins will probably pay Cowher $7-8 mil a year to coach the team. Snyder is all about creating hype and interest in the team. On the field, they are a poor product, yet they manage to be the most valuable sports franchise in the country.

Sorry for some reason I don't see the Redskins being worth more than the Yankees or Red Sox.....

Why do the Rooney's deserver anything from him at this point? He's no longer involved with that franchise and he gave as much if not more in this time there than they have him. In fact if they had paid him #1 coach money when his contract status came up initially he may still be the coach there now. IMO.

I have to agree, the Steelers had been jerking Cowher around quite a bit. He had been given the reputation of a coach that couldn't win anything, and for a while it looked like he was going to receive that treatment. Now he gets a ring and suddenly he owes that to the Rooneys? If you ask me he didn't have that success because of them, it was more like in spite of them.

lets not get to ignorant:(

the redskins are worth $400 mil more than any baseball team.

nba and mlb aren't even close

gibbs signed a 5 year, $25 million contract to coach the 'skins, and that was three years ago. coaches salaries dont coutn against the cap, and the redskins have $$$ to burn. if nick saban can get paid $4 mil a year to coach a COLLEGE team, then cowher can easily get paid $7-8 mil to come out of retirement and coach again.

Just wait until Steinbrenner sells the Yankees.

I'm talking at least $2 Billion, probably more. They will have a new stadium in 2 years, possibly another world championship, AND two of the best players in the game under contract.

And Snyder overpaid....

As much as Forbes dictates the "value" of a professional franchise, it always seemed to me that the value of what you have is only as much as someone is willing to pay for it. That being said, I would have to say someone would be much more willing to pay 1.4 Bill for the Yanks than the Skins.

i lived in DC for quite a while. the redskins are a cash COW. the whole DC, virginia, and maryland (the ravens are only a niche in MD) area is burgundy and gold. snyder is a marketing genius too. hes made a TON of money from his initial purchase.

snyder will always overpay....look at adam archuleta and andre carter.

building a new stadium wont double the value of the yankees either.

So what if the Washington franchise is theoretically the most valuable in US sports? What does that have to do with Bill Cowher? The question isn't ability to spend, it's willingness to spend. I'm sure every owner in the league has the means to match Snyder's price - they just may not want to (or be stupid enough to).

Whatever you say....

At least you aren't saying the Redskins should draft Brady Quinn....:shake:

Now back to the thread topic....

None of the credit goes to the Steelers for sticking with him all these years or how well Kevin Colbert has drafted? The Steelers aren't considered one of the better NFL franchisesHow have the Steelers been jerking Cowher around? Heck they gave him an extension after back to back losing seasons in 1999. He received another contract extension after a losing season in 2003. The Steelers have been generous with Cowher compared to the rash decisions that other franchises make. How many franchises keep a coach after 3 straight non-playoff seasons? Cowher wouldn't have won a Super Bowl with other franchises because he wouldn't have lasted the 15 seasons. The Steelers fired former GM Donahue after Donahue came to the Rooney and said you keep me or Cowher. The Steelers don't negotiate with a player or coach until they have 1 year remaining on their contract. The Steelers didn't even go into to negotiations with Cowher because he retired a week after the season. Cowher talking about retirement before the season, he was jerking the Steelers around. Cowher set the tone of the season by talking about retirement.

My reasons why Cowher owes the Rooneys?

-Gave him his shot to be a NFL HC at an age and experience level when no one lese would have.

-2 contract extensions after losing seasons and never one ounce of the heat from upstairs that so many other coaches have to deal with.

-Tremendous control/input over personnel moves that many coaches do not enjoy.

-Donahue says its me or Cowher. Donahue heads to Buffalo.

All in all I don't think you can overstate what it means to a coach to get the unfailing support and lack of meddeling the Rooneys have given Cowher, and like I said, untill he proves otherwise I believe Cowher feels the same way about it.
