Campaigning for Cowher '08

I'm definitely not holding my breath on getting Cowher -- but I'd be very disappointed if Lerner didn't shell out a large sum of money to land him.
He did so to sign O'Neill for Aston Villa and shelled out a lot of money back in August and just now (2nd transfer period just ended) for 2nd-level vets and journeyman that are little better than say Shaffer. If he fails to shell out some serious cash for the Brownies -- I'll take that as a sign that he is no longer serious about this organization.
Throw the cash out there, court him, and let Cowher make his decision.

Yeah, I could see the Skins trying for him, and it's pretty obvious that Gibbs isn't going to be able to fix that team. Also, it doesn't look like Dallas is getting a long term coach right now so I think those two are the teams that will be willing to spend the most money.

Either owner would be willing to pay through the nose, if Jerry Jones has proven anything it's that he's willing to spend money.

All of this depends on what Cowher wants to do, don't forget that Marty is on his last year in San Diego and I don't foresee good times next year with Cam leaving. So as I see it, you'll most likely have the following coaching positions open.

Needs SERIOUS Help: Browns, Raiders, Cardinals.
Needs Help: Redskins
Ready for Playoffs: Dallas, San Diego.

Now the Serious help teams come down to the lower expectations. Hell, if you get the Cardinals past the first round of the playoffs you're probably in thier hall of fame. The Dallas and Washington jobs are going to have high expectations. As much as I love the Chargers, I think they are going to try to make a play for Petey, which odds are will bite them in the ass and force them to get a small name coach because they held out too long. And last, I don't think anyone goes near the Raiders job, between Al Davis, the Rabid Fans and that locker room.

So my point, if you're Cleveland you make a play to get Troy Smith and throw as much money as you can at Cowher. Smith would give you some time to get things fixed without people booing, he's loved in the state and I see a lot of people saying "give him some time."

Has overbearing, egomaniacal owner: Dallas, Oakland, Washington

My point being, if I'm Cowher - a proven winner - I would not want to work for an owner that would be meddling with the team and be all up in my business. I would want as much control and autonomy as possible. I don't think any of those would be a good fit for him, even though they'll spend the dollars. Parcells seemed to work out for the most part in Dallas with Jones, but I don't see that happening again.

Cowher = next Redskins coach

Snyder is not one to shy away from spending the big bucks, and by 2008 Gibbs will probably retire again.

Talk about dreaming, I can't even imagine Cowher entertaining the thought of coaching in Washington. What would possibly attract him to that place other than $$ and it's not like Snyder has more money than Lerner or anyone else.

well the ideal job next year, and I am not trying to sound cocky here, is the San Diego job. There's already rumors going around about Pete Carroll but I still think he's a fool if he leaves USC. Now would Cowher want to come to the west coast? If it's between the browns and the chargers which team would you go to?

Maybe he takes the Browns job, who knows, maybe he just quits coaching or sits retired til he finds a team he likes that needs a coach. Another question next year is Tampa Bay.

One last note, regarding S.D. Spanos may not be a controlling owner but A.J Smith has shown to be a little on the pushy side as a GM, now whether that's just Marty and him or the way he is, who knows.

Cowher played here for three years and coached here for four. As a secondary coach and special teams coach, both were pretty much the best in the league while he was here. This is going to be a $$$ and a gut decision by Cowher. I have no doubt he'd consider coming back to Cleveland, considering the $$$ that Lerner can throw at him.

Yeah but I think just about every team in need of a head coach is going to throw a decent amount of $$ at him. The question is how much is having to make excuses for losses after the game every week going to be worth.

Consider? Sure, I consider moving back to Ohio, but there's a slim chance of that happening. Because my current situation fits my needs.

Of the remaining NFL coaches, I think Marty will be floating around but seeing as he's already been to Cleveland I think he'll take the Arizona job.

The Redskins will probably pay Cowher $7-8 mil a year to coach the team. Snyder is all about creating hype and interest in the team. On the field, they are a poor product, yet they manage to be the most valuable sports franchise in the country.

I know I'm being naive but I'm going to believe Cowher called it quits for the family reasons he stated. I will really be dissapointed in him if he does that for 1 year and comes back, regardless of team. The Rooney's deserve better than that from him imo.

Where do you get that information that they are the most valuable sports franchise in the country?? What are you basing that on? Do you really think that any other team that wants Cowher can not pony up 8 mil or more for him?? Pahlease. :shake:

Why do the Rooney's deserver anything from him at this point? He's no longer involved with that franchise and he gave as much if not more in this time there than they have him. In fact if they had paid him #1 coach money when his contract status came up initially he may still be the coach there now. IMO.
