Campaigning for Cowher '08

Big Papa

Urban!!!!
The site is already up campaigning to have Bill Cowher as the Browns coach in 2008. Lerner should definitely try to get him after next season, pay him what he wants, he is what Cleveland needs to get this team cleaned up and winning again.

No offense to Cleveland fans, but there's no way Cowher would accept the head coaching position there. For starters, he's very loyal to the Rooney family, and I don't see him accepting a position with the Steelers' long-time rival.

I'm not sure that loyalty is as deep as many people think. I think there could be some deep seeded resentment for not getting the contract he wanted before stepping down. Not to mention his ties to Cleveland that he already has.

He did play for the browns, so there is also some loyalties there too. But I think he may take the next few years off before coming back.

Either way, the bidding wars start next year... the worst he can say is no, and the only way I'd be disappointed is if Lerner didn't make a move.
Given that he was able snipe the vaunted O'Neill for his other miserable football team's manager -- I'd be surprised if an offer isn't put out there.

Meh, Dallas, San Diego and probably a few other well stocked teams will be looking for a proven, high-profile coach. I would be surprised if he took the Browns job, but yeah, if the Browns don't at least try to get him they are fools.

Boy, San Diego will be a plum job once they fire Schottenheimer next year. The best RB in the game, a good up-and-coming QB, and a strong defense... Not to mention getting to live in San Diego... No way I'd go to the Browns over that one.

As for the idea of luring Cowher to Cleveland, who cares (from the fans standpoint) whether he was the coach of the Steelers? Pro football is a mercenary sport, and I'll take anybody who can make the team a winner. Especially Cowher.
