Calling Out the Boosters

Maybe our coaches need to sit down with these guys and go over with them that if anyone other than your mom or dad gives you anything other than congratulations or a pat on the back (pat on the back is probably borderline) that they should just politely say no thanks. Unless of course it is a hot co-ed offering up a little suckie-suckie then they should accept that instantly and move on to the next hottie.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

It was probably 'Bron 'Bron giving some props to his boyz for being expolited by the NCAA.

Well, if these rich booster ARE on this board, maybe they'd like to contribute to the "We Need A New Server" fund at Buckeye Planet. That would help out all of Buckeye Nation and get no one in trouble. :wink2: Probably cost less too.

Trust me, these kids are told how the NCAA rules work and the school does everything it can do to make sure they understand. That said, it is still up to each kid to take responcibility for their actions and not break the rules. Whether that is something as inocent and getting a few extra bucks from a friend for Christmas or the famed "$100" handshakes. The coaches cannot stop these kids from doing anything, a kid can always find someone who will break the rules if they look hard enough. Not saying this is what happened here at all, just commenting about how the coaches are getting the heat from this and it is not their fault.

Boosters cant be controled or stopped, it happens everywhere...it has been going on for years.....as long as college football makes money, this stuff will always go on.

I think the boosters know the risks the player is taking when he accepts something from a booster, but until there is a pentally for the booster for giving it, this type of thing will not stop.

Ab-so-freaking-LUTELY! In this instance, sacking the coach or an administrator will not serve as a warning to future players who might want to dabble in Felony Stupidity. As good as some tOSU athletes might be ... if they decide to take the low road, let someone else put up with their dumb a$$es.

And you KNOW Woody wouldn't put up with this ...

Don't blame the boosters, blame the kids for taking the money.
Don't know if I totally agree with you here Mili. Both are at fault.

Mili, put yourself back in college, if someone was throwing thousands of $$ at you and you knew that maybe you would get kicked out of school if you were caught taking it, would you still take it? I probably would b/c it was awful tough to make ends meet, especially in grad school when we weren't allowed to have jobs.

Also, what if the boosters give the money to the parents of a player who then pass the money on to the player, acting as a "launderer" if you will? Whose at fault then?

Is there a rule saying that parents of a player can't accept money?

Get's very complicated.

well, I for one am guilty of accepting money..I took several thousands from lonely college girls needing a night of passionate love making. I knew I could get into trouble for it, but dammit, those girls were needing it and I wanted to buy a new fish tank and a jacuzzi.

Not no, but fuck no, especially if I were having all my school expenses (tuition, books, housing, food) already being paid for me, and even more so if it were to potentially hurt my chances at eventually playing at the next level. Whenever players take cash, they put themselves at risk of losing way more than the value of that cash. If I somehow were to take any "side" money, you could bet your ass that I'd make sure that no one knew about it...no one.
