CANZONE EN FUGEO

Dominic Canzone has guided the Buckeyes’ through their six-game win streak. He batted .480 (12-for-25) with five runs scored, three doubles, one home run, four RBI and one walk. His slugging and on-base percentage were a team-highs too, .720/.500. As a team, the team is hitting .285 during the win streak with 18 extra-base hits. The OSU pitching has been strong as well, posting a combined 2.85 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 57.0 innings pitched.

QUOTE FROM THE SKIPPER

“I think we are doing a lot of things well, but I still see room for improvement,” head coach Greg Beals said. “The quality of the at-bat could have been better in the middle part of the game. I thought defensively we still have some opportunities to make some plays that were not. Our infield defense needs to continue to work. We just need to be a little cleaner. I think this team can pitch and hit well enough to win a lot of games. We have to do the little things better and I think that’s the next level for us becoming a national-caliber ball club.”

RANDOM NOTES FROM AROUND THE BALLPARK

  • Coach Randall, Beals’ high school baseball coach, delighted the staff with a delivery of some freshly-made donuts from a bakery in his hometown of Springfield, Ohio, also the hometown of Beals. Delicious way to start a Sunday twinbill.
  • Spring break is over. Our scoreboard operator was a little jet-lagged from her overseas journey to Italy. She mastered it by the top of the third though. Actually, probably the top of the fourth. She also tried to find the “safe” button on the scoreboard control system, but there isn’t one. Over achiever. Doubleheaders are a grind for everyone.
  • The electric show was at the ball park today. Wearing all sorts of awesome hockey jerseys and aviators, the Ohio State women’s hockey team was in attendance to cheer on the boys. Congrats to the greatest women’s hockey team ever on an epic year.
  • Former Buckeye Jake Brobst made an appearance at Bill Davis Stadium. If you remember him correctly, he was the swole-bearded dude holding the axe in the dugout from the 2016 title season. The memorable axe is now in a lighted framed display located in the players’ lounge underneath the stadium. Also, congrats to Jake, who recently married @madsimphotography over the winter! She was the team’s photographer for the boys at the 2016 Big Ten Tournament in Omaha. #RaiseTheAxe

Our starting pitchers help these guys to 6 earned runs in 3 games....very encouraging. CSUN was top 10 in pretty much every offensive category coming into this series.

Feltner's 6 2/3 Sunday was the longest outing of any starting pitcher this year. Per Burke Granger, he was still sitting 93 after 100 pitches. Yuuuge

If we could just shore up the infield defense........

If we could just shore up the infield defense........

Took a big step in that direction by finally getting Brady Cherry off the field. Hate to dump on the guy but he’s fielding about .850 over his career. Much better defensively with West at SS and Foppe at 2B. We’re just gonna hafta deal with Pohls defensive issues at 3B.

Noticed Beals is recruiting A LOT more middle infielders lately. That’s a big shift in strategy from the glut of corner outfield/ 1B types in years past. Erwin, Ernst, Dezenzo, Fisher, and Karaffa are all middle infield commits in the 18 and 19 classes. I’m not sure he’s recruited that many in his previous 7 classes combined...seriously
