Cal guy-I come in peace

Piemelon

Newbie
I'm a retired old f-rt and though I'm a Cal season ticket holder, every year for the past few years, my wife and I have gone to at least one out of state major program/storied stadium college for a game. Usually they are not Cal games as Cal usually hangs around the coast. I was really pumped to see we are playing you guys in Columbus as tOSU and the horseshoe are on our short list.
The first thing I do is get Hotel reservations as a lot of schools sell out local hotels on gameday weekend pretty quickly. I made reservations at a Hilton Garden Inn that claimed to be a half mile from the stadium, but it looks like that's as the crow flies as it is on the other side of the river. Any suggestions? We like to just park at the hotel then walk to the game if we can.
Hope you don't mind me hanging around and asking questions over the next few months.
Thanks

Take a bath, get into Stanford and come back.

That does seem to be a bit of a walk.

Hope you have a good time. If you are talking about the Hilton Garden at3232 Olentangy River Road then you are correct, you won't be walking from there. It is definitely over a half mile from the stadium. However, there are maybe two hotels closer than the cluster at which you are staying.

I'd rather stay downtown and cab than where you are and cab, but that is just my opinion. Better restaurants and bars.

That's a 20 minute or so walk. I stay at Varsity Inn South which is about a mile from the stadium. That's about as close as you'll get.

Come to the game, tailgate with us and enjoy your visit. I'm hopeful that your team will not. :)

If you can afford the Blackwell, which is owned by the university, that would be your best choice. Great hotel.

One caution - stay away from I-71 and the fairgrounds area.

This^^^ Ohio State does not have much of a selection at all of Hotels near campus which allow you to walk....you will understand once you see the lay out. Downtown with a cab is a great suggestion in my opinion because if you come in Friday it will give you a chance to eat at a good place and see how clean and nice our arena district and short north areas are.

Hilton Garden Inn isn't as far away as you think. I walk to the game from my house and my house is twice the distance the Hilton is to the Shoe.

I've stayed at that hotel and walked it with two small children, its not that bad. Almost everything is on the other side of the river from the 'Shoe so they have built many of those modern convenience/bridge thingies. You can even walk right on over a couple of them. :wink2:

They also have seven million bicycle rickshaws flying around to use.

Game day in Ohio Stadium is one of the best in all of college football.
It will be a great experience with lots of energy because of the new coach.
Too bad your not participating in the tailgating before.

Yeah I wish I had known about those things.

What I didn't tell the guy was that the kids actually started seeing dead relatives and fell out about half way through the forced march. At that point it was either give them medical attention or miss kickoff so I left them to their fate but fortunately Columbus is a nice town and they were still laying in the same spot we left them as we made our way back to the hotel after the game.

They don't remember much and my wife and I never bring it up so all's well that ends well and I'd stay there again.
