I am not sure this is going to do much good for tOSU's strength of schedule, but here it is:

Cal's defense had no better success against Nevada's spread option pistol offense than it did the last time the teams met in 2010. Two years ago, Nevada rolled up 492 yards in a 52-31 victory with the quarterback (Colin Kaepernick) and a running back (Vai Taua) both running for more than 100 yards and Kaepernick having a big day passing as well. After having two years to study the mistakes made in that game, Cal this time allowed Nevada to collect 450 yards. Again the quarterback (Cody Fajardo) and running back (Stefphon Jefferson) both had over 100 yards rushing, and Fajardo had a big day passing (25-for-32, 230 yards). Cal again showed it can't stop an option attack, not a good sign with a trip to Ohio State waiting in two weeks.

Man, this is the risk you run when you have to schedule OOC games so far in advance and think you are getting a top quality team. Its anyone's telling who will be good 5-10 years from the day you set a game up. Oh well, at least cal has a decent name in college athletics. This is better than beating up a team that is one step away from being a community college, like Savannah State.

Looking at Cal's opponents and how they have fared in the first couple of weeks along with some other random stuff;

-Cal has given up exactly 31 points to a run heavy offense (Nevada) and a pass heavy offense (Southern Utah). Both offenses scored 4 TD's.
-Southern Utah only scored 3 points on offense vs Utah State.
-Nevada also scored 31 points against USF (a game they lost at home after beating Cal at Cal)

-Offensively Cal scored 50 on Southern Utah where Utah State was only able to manage 34.
-Cal scored 24 vs Nevada who gave up 32 to USF.

I know the transitive property is a terrible predictor but I don't think its much of a stretch to say Cal doesn't look like a very good team this year, especially on defense.

On offense it looks like they are another balanced team with a good passing QB. Time for our defense to figure out how to get pressure with the front 4 and for the secondary to get their assignments down better.

Defensively they give Miller and the offense a chance to keep getting more efficient, especially with the down field passing.

Also it looks like they have a pretty good punt returner (or at least he ran one back vs Nevada fwiw) so keep an eye on that.

All in all a pretty vanilla noon cupcake from what I can see but it is a BCS conference opponent so they need to be taken seriously. truth be told UCF will probably end up being our biggest OOC test.

If there is ever a game to put it all together it's this one. Looks like Cal's defense can be a trouble spot for them and if our defense can just play to 80% of it's potential they could get a confidence boost from limiting a quality offense.

Huge game IMO as far as momentum. If we can win this game imipressively like 35-6 or 42-7 it will go a long way for our team heading into MSU after UAB.

So I get this email today from the Assistant Director, Advancement Events office of OSU. It says I have won two free tickets to the game on Saturday because I have used an app called Buckeyes Unite!
So I WILL be at the game!
I asked her where they are and she said 9c.. Nose bleeds, but who cares... Im there!:osu::oh:
