2026 CA WR Chris Henry Jr. ???

If Chris isn’t coming here that’s fine. Our offenses have been elite because of Ryan Day and elite QB play. Not because the WRs bailed out Justin Fields, CJ Stroud, Will Howard, and Julian Sayin.

We all knew this day was coming and if it means we don’t land Chris Henry then so be it. I think there’s going to be plenty of WRs in the portal who will want to line up opposite of JJ for one year and also become a first rounder.

Sorry, the elite WR play has carried over into the NFL far more than the elite QB play has.

Day's offense has been lethal since he took over when he's had his Olave, MHJr, J Smith beast out there. It's a symbiotic relationship, neither can do it without the other but let's not act like this wouldn't be a major blow.

No it won't break what Day is doing but no one is going to transfer in and just make you forget the talent this kid has. I'm sure you could go back to JJ's thread and find similar bravado when the idea he might flip came up. Yeah, we would have gotten another WR but we wouldn't have had J Smith.

From everything I have read, this kid is in that kind of talent stratosphere.

2018 would be an example of an elite Day passing attack with a good, but not great WR group.
Hopefully, we land somewhere between that group and what we’ve had the past 5 years.
If we can land Henry and keep Jamier Brown, we’ll be set up for the next few years.
We won’t stack talent like Hartline did but, with the right hire, we should still have an elite passing attack.

The unique thing about Hartline was his ability to recruit studs every year, with many knowing they’d have to “wait their turn”.

Thats unusual in today’s landscape but just getting an invite to the WR room was seen as “elite”. And the development while you waited was usually well worth it.

Where OSU now takes a dip, is the standard ups and downs around WR classes and kids looking at available PT. Hartline was so good, the depth chart didn’t matter…

So that’ll kinda suck…..

and that 2018 team wasn't a NC contender either.

This day and age the dominant WR is what the stud RB used to be. Yeah you can have good RB's but there is a difference between very good and elite. Antonio Pittman was very, very good but he wasn't Beanie Wells.

Hopefully we can stay elite at WR but there is seemingly no way we stay at the absurd level Hartline had us at.

Because of a horrible rushing attack and defense.

Look at the WR for the 2021, 2022, 2023 champions.

You can win a Natty with the 2018 WR group. Just will be easier with a group like the last 5 years.

Probably worth a discussion outside the kids thread.

Days offense is built around 1) WR mismatch + 2) NFL scheme and reads. His QB's constantly find open WR's which allows 3) run game and formation to be lethal because of the WR driven pass game.

He wins per play because his WR's destroy matchups, shred coverage shells and make defenses predictable.

You can win with mediocre WR's but that is not how Day tries to win.
