2027 CA QB Brady Edmunds is a Buckeye!!!

It seems Edmunds is still saying the right things. Could be a ploy for more $, dunno. But from my experience in life, if there's smoke, then there's fire. Totally get the kid protecting himself from 'the talk'. We read about the recruit signing with someone else late in the game, but not as much about the school telling the kid there's no room in the inn for him when it's too late to find another place. Writers talk about the glitz and glamor of recruiting, but there's an ugly underside as well.
I don't think Edmunds has the leverage to pull such a ploy. I feel like if he were to do that, they would tell him to hit the road. The way they're pursuing other QBs it seems like they're content settling for him in the class but they want someone else

Before Brady Edmunds competed in the Elite 11 Finals on Friday, the California prospect opined it would be "hard" to back off his commitment to Ohio State as other teams pursue the standout signal caller.

Speaking with him on Friday before the Elite 11 Finals, Edmunds said that things are still all good with Ohio State for now, but he's continuing to do his due diligence and explore his other options, with schools such as UCLA and Northwestern continuing to recruit Edmunds hard.

Note: The rest of the article is for "members only". I have no idea if he said anything else or not. The above paragraph is all that I could access/read.

Per Andrew at BH:
The folks at the Elite 11 tonight are being pretty critical about Edmunds' mobility. "Strong-armed pocket passer who struggles on the move" is what I keep reading.
Makes sense, as QBs in CFB need to be mobile enough to extend plays. You don’t need Justin Fields or Braxton Miller, but he better be close to Haskins or Stroud. It seems like Edmunds is closer to McCord or Boeckman

or Big Ben (on the field).

I will defer to Ryan Day on any question ever involving QB but this sounds like the other side of the coin to the discussion about Underwood and how maybe football has over done it on athleticism at QB and not enough on how to actually play QB. Our resident hardrcore X and O guru said similar things about watching the all 22 film of Sayin iirc.

I have no idea if this kid is that advanced on the true QB part of playing the position or not, just found it an interesting contrast in the same off season news cycle.

I think there's a sweet spot with QB, where the QB can move the pocket and extend plays to hit the open man. And doesn't need to be Michael Vick or Cam Newton, but then also isn't a statue like a Tom Brady.
I think there's also a discussion in this climate in how early do you take a commitment. Because now OSU is left to scramble if they don't believe in Brady.

“It Would Be a Tough Thing to Walk Away From”: Brady Edmunds Still Weighing Whether to Stay Committed to Ohio State or Flip to UCLA

If Edmunds were to flip to UCLA or another school, he said the decision would be difficult. As the second commitment in Ohio State’s 2027 class behind five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown, Edmunds has been pledged to the Buckeyes for a year and a half. He has been a fan of the program for even longer.

“If for whatever reason it ends up going the other way, it would be a tough thing to walk away from,” Edmunds said of his Ohio State commitment. “I’ve been a part of this for so long, obviously committed for 18-plus months, one of the longest commits in all of the class, so it means a lot. I mean, my family, everything like that. My grandpa obviously being from here. It’s a big deal.”

Edmunds said he does not have an official timeline for making a final decision on his college destination. However, he'd like to make one sooner rather than later.

“There’s a time where I’d like to get it done, and that’s probably as soon as possible,” he said. “But again, I never thought I would really be in this position to begin with, so we’ll see.”

Kid is a class act, and I hope he stays in the class, but I understand if he doesn't. Day has seen how NCs are won, and a mobile/semi mobile QB is needed to keep the defense honest since DL are getting so much faster and bigger. Howard's legs were a big reason for the NC, and McCords legs were a big reason OSU wasn't playing for an NC
