Seth McLaughlin on playing for Alabama, Ohio State before going to the NFL: 'It's been an awesome career'
McLaughlin won the Rimington Trophy and helped to put the Buckeyes in the running for the Joe Moore Award for the best offensive line in college football. He was named first-team All-Big Ten after grading out as a champion in all 10 of his starts.
How rehab is going: It's going good, going good. Getting a bunch of great reports from my surgeon and my PT and timelines is I'll be back for training camp. So that's good news to hear.
Heard that it takes a year to heal and a year to trust your leg after Achillies injuries: Yeah, I don't know. First time I've ever going through something like this. So it's a learning experience each step of the way. And I'm attacking rehab each day, and it's going really well. And when my doctor said
I'm good to go, I'll have to trust it, and we'll go out there and see how it does.
Where you've been rehabbing: I've been working with the people in Columbus at the Ohio State facility.
Outside of you, who was the leader of the Ohio State offense: Will Howard. He brings in a presence into the huddle and intensity. He knows exactly what he's doing each play. And when you have a guy like that come in and like, 'Hey, here's what we're doing. It's third-and-three. We've gotta get this.' And when he can bring that energy in and fire everybody up, it was definitely a difference maker.
Howard have to grow into that leadership role: He definitely grew into it. You gotta go out there and gain confidence for yourself and gain the trust of your teammates. And throughout the year, he just got better and better.
Describe the ups and downs of your college career: It's been an awesome career. I wouldn't change anything for the world. Being in the two greatest football programs in the country, two of the top three (most winning), it's been an incredible blessing to be a part of those teams and win a lot of games. And there's ups and downs that come with it, but it's put me in this position where I'm at right now. And I wouldn't be where I was without the worst parts of my time, and I wouldn't be where I am without the best parts, clearly. But wouldn't change anything for the world.
Feedback you've gotten from teams: It's cool. I think everybody's just trying to see where this Achilles is at. And it's going good, trying to reassure people that it's gonna be good. Trying to really wow people on the board work and teaching them the stuff that we did at Ohio State. And I think I'm doing a really good job there. Just gotta keep gaining the trust and keep going to work on this PT and rehab. And by April, we'll know a lot more how that's going.
