Seth McLaughlin did play in the NFL preseason in 2025, specifically in the Cincinnati Bengals' final game, despite recovering from an Achilles injury.
He suffered a torn Achilles during an Ohio State practice in November 2024, which ended his college season and affected his draft status—he went undrafted but signed with the Bengals as a free agent in April 2025. McLaughlin was placed on the active/non-football injury list in mid-July 2025 due to his ongoing recovery but passed his physical and was cleared for practice by late July. He took part in team drills during training camp and expressed confidence in playing preseason snaps.
In the Bengals' preseason finale on August 23, 2025, against the Indianapolis Colts, McLaughlin played all second-half snaps at center. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), he earned a 71.3 run-blocking grade and a 68.2 pass-blocking grade, showing he was still regaining full strength less than 10 months after the injury. The Bengals waived him on August 26, 2025, just before the regular season, but his performance demonstrated progress in his recovery.
