pitt currently has only two players over 6'7". both are underclassmen and both are meh, at best. they do have a 6'8" power forward commitment for 2019. he's a 3-star (228th). all in all, pitt appears no worse (or better, really) than osu from the standpoint of immediate playing time. the biggest difference between the two programs is that osu projects to be (much) better next season and beyond. of course, some other factor -- such as diallo's first impression of the coaching staffs and rosters -- may ultimately be the deciding factor. who knows.

wonder if our staff has talked to diallo about a possible redshirt. there is an opportunity for immediate playing time behind kaleb; however, between diallo's apparent status as a project and the availability of young, ledee, liddell, and gaffney to play post minutes, i still don't think the addition of a true center is an absolute necessity for 2019. i wouldn't exactly say the addition of a true center would be a luxury, though. there is still a definite need for player with 6'10"+ length on the back end.

pitt insiders appear rather optimistic that they'll receive a commitment this week from juco big khadim sy (who looks awesome but may be a headcase). the panthers have next to nothing underneath, so they could definitely take both sy and diallo. regardless, i'd take this as good news if sy commits to pitt.

caveat to the above:

the stats from last season at prolific prep aren't included. you'd expect poor stats from someone who not so long ago picked up the game. the main thing here is the rate of the development and athletic fundamentals like footwork as well as eye-hand coordination. diallo would not at all be expected to come in and give us offensive production as a freshman. this is primarily a play for 2020 and beyond. however, if he could come in and give us 4 to 8 minutes of shot-swatting defense and a few cleaned backboards, then all the better.

His fluidity with his length makes an incredibly interesting long-term project. The question is if we need to stay big with Kaleb in foul trouble can he buy us 5-10 minutes? He really resembles the big archetype big that Syracuse typically goes after.

Also I sorta of doubt that 7'9 wingspan measurement. That would be tie the highest in the NBA, Rudy Gobert.

Diallo really needs a staff that can develop him. Can our staff do that? I have no idea, they don't really have any sort of track record with a player like him.

I get how his FT percentage was beyond awful, the kid has no basketball skill, but I'm trying to understand the 39% from 2. He's 7-feet tall and long, what kind of shots was he attempting that he still missed 60% of them from in close against HS competition?
