C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Cook could wear #7, his aau number but doenst...he goes back to 31...his jr high number...
Oden could wear 50, but chooses 20..
Conley could wear 11, but chooses 1..
Lighty wore 35 in hs right?...thats not taken...but 23 aint a bad number:biggrin:
Hunter seems the only one who kept his HS/JC number..#45

Actually, #7 is a number you are not aloud to use. You are only aloud to have numbers between 0-5 on both digits of your number in high school and the NCAA. You are correct, Lighty did wear #35 in high school.

#20 is somewhat of a weird number to have for a post, but as long as he plays like an all-american I dont care what number he has on his jersey.

That is correct. You cannot use any number over 5. I believe they made this rule so the refs could more easily communicate with his hands which player commited the foul. For instance if Michael Jordan committed a foul the ref would signal 2 with his right hand and three with his left hand to indicate to the official scorer that number twenty three commited the foul.

Meaning the available numbers are:
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25
30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35
40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45
50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55

You forgot 00, as worn by Tony Campbell when he played for Ohio State in the early 1880s (i.e. 1981 to 1984).

hmm...i wonder why exceptions were made for Artest/Gooden and Rodman??...i guess the its the NBA

btw, thanks for the great info guys

Yep those were exceptions made by the NBA.

As for Oden wearing 20, maybe some of pain medication went to his head and he thinks he is playing the 2 guard when he comes back. :tongue2:

some positive news.....

Step forward for Oden

Freshman center Greg Oden had a screw removed from his surgically repaired right wrist, but Matta said the timetable for his return remains uncertain.

"Just because the pin's out, he's not back to normal. We still have a ways to go," Matta said.

Oden had surgery June 16 to reattach a torn ligament in the wrist, which he injured in February. The screw was inserted to stabilize bones while the ligament healed.

Matta said recently that he hoped to have Oden in the lineup by Jan. 1.

so how much longer do people REALLY think Greg will be out?

My personal opinion is that he will be ready a couple of games before the Big Ten opener against Indiana...

Top 10 Athletes of the Past 10 Years

7. Greg Oden -- Class of 2006

Oden is simply the best high school big man of the past 10 years. A defensive force who once blocked 18 shots in a game, Oden led Lawrence North (Indianapolis, Ind.) to three consecutive state titles and was a two-time USA Today and Gatorade National Player of the Year. He's now a freshman at Ohio State.

Oden only wore #50 in HS because it was the only one that fit him.

Prior to that #20 was his number.
