C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Oden would hit another level by adding madness to his method

SAN ANTONIO -- I want more from Greg Oden. Is that OK to say? Is it politically correct? Is it stupid, unreasonable, selfish?

Sue me. I want more from Greg Oden, and for a simple reason: He has more to give than his 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game. Sounds scary, but if you've watched Ohio State as many times in person as I have this season, you'd know it's true.

Ohio State?s Oden lets his play do all the talking
RAY BUCK - 03.26.2007
[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]SAN ANTONIO ? Those first raucous moments after Greg Oden powered up a 92-76 victory over Memphis on Saturday, the 7-foot Ohio State center was busted.
Now we know: He can?t celebrate worth a lick.
?That?s just how I am,? Oden later explained. ?I mean, I?m not going to explode.?
Not in the celebratory sense.
On the court, however, Oden helped turn the South Region final by staying out of late foul trouble, clogging the middle and throwing down a couple of thunder dunks, of which he has become quite an aficionado as well as a historian.
?I saw Best Damn Sports Show Period?s top 50 dunks last night,? said the 19-year-old freshman. ?I saw a couple of guys break the rim. I?ve never had the honor of doing that.
?I try real hard,? Oden quickly added. ?But these new-age rims don?t break like they did back in the old days.?

Oden comes up big for OSU
Overcomes foul trouble to help secure Final Four berth
BY STEPHEN HAWKINS | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SAN ANTONIO - Forget any of those thoughts about Greg Oden becoming a freshman flop in the NCAA Tournament.
All that foul trouble Oden's been in the last few games? Just a memory. The 7-foot sensation reasserted his dominance when he was needed the most - and Ohio State is going to the Final Four for the first time since 1999.
"When you have a guy like that that can block shots and have a presence and rebound like that, we had to play a perfect game," Memphis coach John Calipari said.

In less than three minutes after Oden returned to the South Regional final Saturday with three fouls, the Buckeyes erased a five-point deficit. Everything changed when Oden got back on the floor, and Ohio State went on to a 92-76 victory over the Tigers.

Stock Up

Greg Oden played a critical role in Ohio State’s Elite Eight victory over Memphis, showing off his signature prowess on the boards and with interior defense, but also looking a bit more formidable in the post on the offensive end than we’re used to seeing, showing off a nice touch and a decent array of moves.

Oden got off to a good start on the game, as Ohio State went to him in the post on their very first possession, where he caught the ball on the right block with his back to the basket. Oden spun into the lane and put up a nice left-handed lay-up, which he finished with a soft touch on the rim. Oden didn’t get much else going in the first half, aside from one power jam on a dropstep where he established excellent position down low in the post. Oden got two fouls pretty early in the game, so Thad Matta rested him for about 10 minutes in the first half, to ensure that he had a chance to make a greater impact in the second half, which he did.

Awsome link!

Joey Dorsey talked plenty of trash before this game, calling Greg Oden a ?little man,? telling the world that he?s ?a lot like me,? and even going as far as to say that Oden is ?a lot overrated.? In the end, he poetically got to see exactly how stupid his comments were, getting absolutely destroyed by the freshman big man on both ends of the floor and going a long way in showing scouts just how limited a player he really is.

...

This game should go a long ways in humbling Dorsey and showing him that life is a lot tougher outside of the incredibly weak confines of Conference USA. If he makes the NBA, it?s going to be as a big body to bring off the bench to rebound, put a body on players, and commit fouls, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. He?s not anywhere close to being as good as Greg Oden, and never will be, so it was probably good for him to find that out now.

Named First Team All American by the AP.

Congrats Greg!!

Congratulations to him.

Not to sound like Mr. Negative, but I just don't see it. Maybe, with all his hype, I was unfairly expecting more of him. But I don't see him dominating any games for any lengthy stretch. He can't stay on the floor for any length, either.

Granted, a 7-foot guy is going to be carrying around some weight, and for him to run up and down the court for 5 minutes, is much more to ask then for someone who's only 6-feet tall. And for someone who was supposed to be the #1 draft pick in the NBA last year (if it weren't for the one-year rule), I don't see him dominating the way I would have thought.

But I don't want to take anything away from him. I'm definitely more of a football fan than a basketball fan, so I won't argue with anyone (regardless of whether he calls himself an "expert") about whether he should go to the NBA, or whatever.

Again, congratulations to Oden. I'd love to see him at Ohio State for some more years.
