I wonder how the Thompson transfer will affect our standing with Giddens because I thought we were in pretty good shape with him. Hopefully, he will realize that we need 2 guys at the 5 to be effective.

I really don't think taking TT as a xfer will keep any of the 2015 C's from committing. He's likely to sit out this season and who knows how good he'll be come 15-16? I think we'll be able to sign a Giddens, Moore, E.Thomas to compete with him for the starting C spot.

I agree. That is part of why TT is a great fit for OSU, he gives experience and a proven commodity who can give you some reliable minutes, but at the same time he doesn't have the rep such that he should scare off top-50 big men such as Giddens from picking OSU.

Stats say he is averaging 3.9 ppg in EYBL play (7 games) with 16 minutes a game. Ben Simmons being on the same team may cut into how much he gets to play and his role offensively. 5 rebounds in 16 minutes isn't that bad of an average. Also averages 2 blocks per game.

Matta has been inclined to go after big men who are strong defensively but limited offensively, and I suspect Giddens falls into that category.

I am not sure that is Matta's inclination as Sully, Mullens and Koufos were certainly guys that were much better offensively than defensively and he's gone after Tony Parker who was much more of an offensive center than defensive presence. I think its just a matter of reality that there aren't many good offensive centers who also have the athletecism that top programs are looking for. I think its true that Matta would rather have an elite athlete that isn't so good on offense than a good offensive center who isn't very athletic, but I think he covets a guy in the middle that he can dump the ball down to and force double teams where the 4 out 1 in offense can really shine.

How is a guy with those stats rated so highly? Even Amir did better.

despite giddens lofty ranking, there are still about 7-12 centers ranked ahead of him according to most (or all) of the recruiting services. 2015 is a very strong class.

i think giddens is accurately ranked. he has played better and rankings for 6'10"+ players are justifiably about potential much of the time. players that tall usually don't reach their prime until the mid-20s. daniel has potential that should be tapped a bit easier than amir's has.
