KETTERING ? All B.J. Mullens wanted was a rare jumbo-sized matchup. When that plug was pulled, the 7-foot-1 Canal Winchester senior did the next best thing.
"I was geeked," said Mullens after putting 62 points on Our Savior New American in the final game of the three-day Flyin' to the Hoop boys basketball event Monday at Fairmont High School's Trent Arena.

B.J. Mullens, shown here during a game last season, scored 36 of Canal Winchester's 38 points in the first half last night.

On the bus ride home from the Flyin' To The Hoop Classic in Vandalia, Ohio, last night, Canal Winchester center B.J. Mullens and future Ohio State teammate Jon Diebler engaged in some good-natured banter via cell phone. "I told Jon I was coming after him next," Mullens said after he scored 62 points, grabbed 21 rebounds and blocked three shots in a 79-69 victory over Our Savior New American of New York City. The 7-foot-1 senior shot 28 of 34 from the field and 6 of 12 at the free-throw line.

Unfortunately Hunter is a senior and will not be here next year:(

BJ better improve his free-throw shooting or we will have to revoke his scholarship:biggrin:

He really does have a nice stroke from the line, the shots just weren't falling from the charity stripe last night.....

State Notebook: Ohio?s stars are shining

RUSTY MILLER
Associated Press

He?s tall, he?s talented ? and maybe he?s finally living up to all the hype.

Canal Winchester?s B.J. Mullens, you may remember, made a verbal commitment to Ohio State before he had ever attended a high school class. That was three years ago, and now the 7-foot-1 center has grown into all the acclaim.
Mullens had 46 and 62 points in back-to-back games last week. The latter came against an undersized Our Savior New American High School team from New York City, in the Flyin? to the Hoop boys basketball final Monday at Fairmont High School?s Trent Arena.
Our Savior?s tallest players ? who stand 7-5 and 7-1 ? did not play. The team was gutted by illness.

Video of his 62 point game...

Man kid is a stud...Love the tenacity, he throws it down so hard, he does things that seven footers shouldn't do...He is so strong, love the drop step, his athleticism for a 7 footer is ridiculous...Would love to see him finish his season playing with that attitude and carry it over to next year here...

He and KK in the paint together is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams...

You and Junkie said that KK would not be around next year. Are you both changing your mind or just you?

I am on the verge...KK's stock is dropping, and while guys with his skill set don't come around very often, he is still soft and going to need some time to get stronger...

I think that KK will have some big games down the stretch much like his game against 'Cuse but I am not sure if it will be enough to get him up into lottery status where I think he could go if he stayed for another year...

I also think that if we have Mullens it will allow KK to play a more natural midpost, position instead of being needed as our only post presence...

Agree on being on the verge...

We've seen glimpses of an effective high-low with hunter/twigs and KK, but it would really be nasty with KK's midrange shot around the high post and Mullens hovering around the blocks rather than KK down low.
