Bush is doing a good job. (got this in an email today)

Semper Fi!
Subject: A clear perspective.
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January.....
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.
When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following.
FDR...led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
Truman...finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.
John F. Kennedy...started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.
Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
In the two years since terrorists attacked us President Bush has ...liberated two countries,
crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day
operation.
We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.
Wait, there's more......................
JOHN GLENN ON THE SENATE FLOOR
Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13 Some people still don't understand why military
Personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women
in the armed services do what they do for a living.
This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.
Senator Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn: "How can you run for Senate when you've
never held a real job?" Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by antiaircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me, as I went the other day, to a veteran's hospital and look those men, with their mangled bodies, in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a real job. Go to Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those
waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those
people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a
dedication to duty, that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible. I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"
For those who don't remember - During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA. Now he is a Senator!
If you can read this, thank a teacher.... If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating 'till next November....

It's hilarious how some people have a complete lack of understanding about US history

On December 8, 1941, within less than an hour after a stirring, six-minute address by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Congress voted, with only one member dissenting, that a state of war existed between the United States and Japan, and empowered the President to wage war with all the resources of the country.

Four days after Pearl Harbor, December 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. Congress, this time without a dissenting vote, immediately recognized the existence of a state of war with Germany and Italy, and also rescinded an article of the Selective Service Act prohibiting the use of American armed forces beyond the Western Hemisphere.

Hey Buckstopshere,

I understand you trying to put a positive spin on everything that is going on including the "liberation" of Iraq. I know that the death counts are sporadic in Iraq. My dad is a 1st Sgt. in the National Guard and will be leaving for Iraq very soon. Some of his unit is already there, including some of his guys that he is very close with. He found out that the ambush on Saturday that killed 2 guys almost killed two of the guys that he has developed in the unit. They were one car away from the RPG that killed two men ahead of them. Imagine calling home to tell your wife that you were nearly killed today, and two guys from your unit didn't make it, and one guy got his leg blown off. Now imagine this for a minute. As you and I sit here and debate this fucking war on a computer, there are real soldiers out there who have lost their lives to "liberate" Iraq. The results of their sacrafice may never be seen in their lifetime (or ever) because there are so many radicals over there who want to make sure the US doesn't accomplish the mission.

It is easy to sit and be an armchair war analyst like some have on this board, including myself sometimes. It is another to come home and tell your wife whom you've slept beside for over 30 years that you are going to fight in a war and may be there for up to 18 months. To have to line up a will just in case something happens. To have to sell your house just so your wife can be alright financially. To have to sit everyday and watch your fellow comrades get picked off one by one over a war that has never been proven to be justified. This is the position that my father is in right now. We can analyze everything that is going on here in this fucked up war, but most of us have never seen a real battlefield, we only see what the T.V. shows us. We never have had to tell our wives, kids, grandkids that we'll be leaving them to go to war.

If you run into a soldier that has fought in this war ask him if it was worth it. Ask him if he'll sleep better tonight now that some Iraqi's can finally eat at McDonalds, or shop at Walmart. Chances are some will never sleep the way that they did before they saw the horiffic pictures of war. I can only pray to the heavens that my father will make it back safely.

I will always support our troops, but will never support this fucked up war in Iraq, no matter how many stats you throw at me.

any bets on the 1 dissenting vote to be a relative of john kerry...stating that we should fight a sensitive war with japan?

My brother-in-law spent 3 tours in Iraq. He is, and has been fully supportive of the effort and remains so. He was a reserve Air Force pilot. I had spent sometime with him when he had already completed a tour in Iraq and was scheduled to return a few weeks later. He wasn't giddy about leaving his family again (wife & 2 small kids) but he knew it was his duty and he believed in the cause (he still does by the way.)

FWIW, he does sleep better now. I will be praying with you that your father, and all of our troops, will return safely.

Wow.

First off, I put on the title that I received that via email. These are in no way my views. This was just some food for thought. Please don't mistake that. Now if you want my views on this war - well - we might be here for a long time. In short, I think the war is a mess and I support our troops.

Also, you don't need to tell me what its like to have to prepare for war. I had to prepare to go to the gulf the first time...you remember that little thing called desert shield/storm. I had to have all my stuff packed up, my parents had to fly down to s. carolina and drive my car and all my stuff back to illinois. I had to fill out a mandatory will. I had to go to NBC (nuclear/biological/chemical) warfare training on a twice weekly basis. We had to watch video of what happens to your body after a chemical attack. I saw things I will never forget. That scared the bejesus out of us. ALL of us. Knowing you are heading over to some place where some nut case might douse you in nerve agents.... not my idea of a good time. How about some blister agents? Imagine a human body being covered by hundreds and hundreds of blisters.... ugly stuff. death is better than the junk i saw. Mind you this is at a time where we didn't really "know" this freak in Iraq, like we do now. All of this was unknown. We read our manuals on how to stick a big freakin needle in your thigh in hopes of saving your life. We were told to NEVER use your needle on your friend. You watch him die. Nice huh? If he has run out - you don't use yours - you may need it. You don't need to explain to me what your father is going through. I KNOW! I feel bad for everyone going over there. I wish your father safety and everyone else over there.

Please don't think I don't know about what it takes ok? I hope this war ends soon, just like you I imagine.
