Buckeyes in the draft/NFL Combine

Zemaitis bombs the Wonderlic
AZ scored a 9 accoring to ESPN.

as for the next section, there is some dispute over the times listed in the next article

PSU gets torn apart by this analyst, summary borrowed with permission from michiganrules1:
praising FSU's Pro Day....

Guy said the following:

FSU-

Had an awesome Pro Day, and they have four players who are potential 1st rounders in Antonio Cromartie, Ernie Sims, Brodrick Bunkley, and Kamerion Wimbley.

Antonio Cromartie checked in at 6-2, 208 pounds ran 4.37 and 4.39 40's, a 3.89 short shuttle, and put up a 42 inch vertical. Basically said what those numbers indicate, he's a freak and did all this stuff coming off an ACL tear.

Ernie Sims checked in at 5-11, 234 pounds and he ran 4.48 and 4.55 40's. Said Sims is as explosive a defensive player in the draft, should be a Top 15 pick.

Bunkley ran a 4.16 short shuttle at 6-2, 304 pounds. Showed video on him and said Bunkley is the #1 D-tackle prospect in the draft.

Wimbley ran a 4.42 short shuttle and showed his athleticism in the linebacker drills. Checked in at 6-4, 248 pounds and said he'll be an OLB in a 3-4 in the NFL.

PSU-

Slammed them into the ground. For lack of better term, said the PSU Pro Day sucked. Said that Anwar Phillips and Alan Zemaitis may have fallen out of the First Day. Also slammed Tamba Hali calling him not strong enough or not fast enough. Said it was a major disappointment because they ran their 40's on a fast indoor rubber track and that the players wore track spikes while running, which he says meant the DB's times should've been in the high 4.4's at worst.

Alan Zemaitis checked in at 6-1, 194 pounds and ran a 4.60 and 4.61 40's. Also Put up a 30 inch vertical jump. Said the vertical was just horrible and that Zemaitis stock dropped way down. Said he'll be surprised if Zemaitis is a 1st day pick.

Anwar Phillips checked in at 5-11, 193 pounds and ran a 4.58 40. Also had a short shuttle in the 4.4's. The guy said Phillips short shuttle was just horrible. Said he thought Phillips was a 3rd round pick prior to the Pro Day, but that he'd be surprised if Phillips was a 1st day pick.

Michael Robinson ran a 4.6-40. Had a 32 inch vertical which he said was just terrible. Said Robinson tried out at QB at the Pro Day, but that he threw the ball terribly. Said Robinson has no future at QB in the NFL and that teams don't want him for QB. Said Robinson hurt his stock insisting on playing QB, that he thought of him as a possible 3rd rounder prior to the Pro Day, but thinks he won't get drafted now.

Tamba Hali checked in at 6-3, 263 pounds. ran a 4.88-40 and did "only" 17 reps of 225. Said Hali isn't big enough, fast enough nor is he strong enough. Said 17 reps for a d-lineman was just "lousy" and that Hali is too slow to play OLB and might be to small and not strong enough to play with his hand down in a 4-3. Said many thought of Hali as a 1st rounder prior to the Pro Day, but that he thinks he'll slip into the 2nd or 3rd round now.

Basically he ripped into Penn State's players and their Pro Day performances, but praised FSU's players and their Pro Day performances.

What S&C program is FSU on? I'd sure like Michigan to get on that one, because PSU is also on HIT like us, and their players stunk it up on their Pro Day. FSU's on the other hand blew the roof off. I wish we had a linebacker who ran a friggin' 4.48.

Maybe Paterno can still coach. It looks like he got most of these guys to "over achieve" (as their physical skills apparently were just average) which resulted in Penn State finishing the season with an 11-1 record, as co Big ten champions, with a win over FSU in the Orange Bowl, and #3 in the polls.

Saginaw News
Jason Avant's pro day at the University of Michigan could have gone better.
During the broad jump Friday, the Michigan wide receiver fell awkwardly and broke a bone in his right hand.
he also pulled a hammy and did not run the 40, similar to the combine. Everyone, knows he is slow... so I suppose running might only hurt his stock and remove all doubt of just how slow he is.

Profootballtalk.com's mock draft:

PFT 2006 MOCK DRAFT VERSION 1

March 26, 2006

We've gotten plenty of questions over the past few weeks regarding the fact that we've yet to offer up our first projection of the picks that will, could, or should be made in the 2006 draft. We probably got an earlier start in past years, but there's still more than a month to go before the day on which the latest crop of football players get formally placed with their first NFL teams.

Part of the problem, as we see it, is those round one projections that started popping up in January and February don't take into account gains and losses during free agency. So we decided to give the annual revolving door a chance to spin before trying to figure out who will go where on draft day.

The agent for each player is identified in parentheses.

Look for further updates over the next five weeks, including a second round.

ROUND ONE

1. Houston Texans: Reggie Bush, RB, USC (Joel Segal).
The Texans will pay lip service to the locals by pretending to agonize over the question of whether to pick Bush or Texas product Vince Young. Barring a trade down, it's Bush.

2. Baltimore Ravens (projected trade from Saints): Vince Young, QB, Texas (Major Adams).
The Saints could opt to stay put and draft a quarterback, but we have a weird feeling that the Ravens will fall in love with Young -- and could find a way to jump from No. 13 to snag him. For the Saints, who we hear covet a certain high-end defensive player, the drop by eleven spots will prevent them from getting him. However, the opportunity to slide back by eleven spots, and to avoid the big cash outlay associated with a top five pick, will be very, very tempting to the team's skinflint front office.
If the Saints stay put, don't be surprised if they take Matt Leinart, even with Drew Brees on the roster. Remember -- Brees' contract is essentially a one-year, $10 million deal.

3. Tennessee Titans: Matt Leinart, QB, USC (Leigh Steinberg, Charles Price).
The Titans love Young, and will take him if he's still on the board. They'll settle for the 2005 Heisman winner, who'll get a rude awakening when he doesn't have the same horses surrounding him as he did when he was a Trojan.

4. New York Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia (Donald Yee, Stephen Dubin).
The fact that the Jets missed out on Jon Runyan has fueled speculation that Tangini will use D'Pick on D'Brick.

5. Green Bay Packers: A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State (Mike McCartney).
This kid was born to be a Packer.

6. San Francisco 49ers: Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State (Ben Dogra).
Williams would go higher in a year without such a top-heavy selection of quality players.

7. Oakland Raiders: Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland (Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu).
Better than Kellen Winslow, who went in the six hole two years ago. As an added plus, Davis doesn't own a motorcycle. :slappy: :slappy: :slappy:

8. Buffalo Bills: Jonathan Joseph, CB, South Carolina (Jason Chayut).
With or without Nate Clements, the Bills need an upgrade.

9. Detroit Lions: Michael Huff, S, Texas (Ben Dogra).
If Huff is there, Lions take him. Without a doubt.

10. Arizona Cardinals: Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt (Bus Cook).
Kurt Warner is the quarterback of present; this team desperately needs a quarterback of the future.

11. St. Louis Rams: Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon (Mike McCartney).
Adding La'Roi Glover isn't nearly enough to improve an interior defensive line that has been a dee-saster in St. Louis.

12. Cleveland Browns: LenDale White, RB, USC (Eugene Parker).
Even though Reuben Droughns is under contract for the next few years, they won't be able to pass on White, whose between-the-tackles toughness fits perfectly with the Dawg Pound mentality.

13. New Orleans Saints (projected trade from Ravens): Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State (Gary Wichard).
The last time this team was legit, it had a defensive line that was worth a crap.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: Ernie Sims, LB, Florida State (Todd France).
Best player available.

15. Denver Broncos (from Atlanta): DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis (Jimmy Sexton).
Coach Kevlar needs more than Ron Dayne and Tatum Bell.

16. Miami Dolphins: Winston Justice, OT, USC (Leigh Steinberg, Bruce Tollner, Ryan Tollner).
The Fins continue to address their biggest area of weakness from 2005.

17. Minnesota Vikings: Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota (Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu, Vance Malinovic).
With their passing game disintegrating, the Vikes reel in a guy to run behind Steve Hutchinson.

18. Dallas Cowboys: Chad Jackson, WR, Florida (David Canter).
With T.O. and Terry Glenn both on the wrong side of 30, the Cowboys need to inject some youth into the position.

19. San Diego Chargers: Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State (Joel Segal).
Keenan McCardell is 36. Enough said.

20. Kansas City Chiefs: Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech (Eric Metz, Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu, Vance Malinovic).
The defense continues to get a needed upgrade.

21. New England Patriots: Tye Hill, CB, Clemson (Doug Hendrickson, Jennifer Carr).
Biggest area of need on a team that suddenly has more than a few of them.

22. Denver Broncos (from Redskins): Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia (Todd France).
Oversized target will make Denver fans says, "Shannon who?"

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa.
Derrick Brooks is getting old.

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State (Joel Segal).
Good team gets better with help in the secondary.

25. New York Giants: Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State (Jimmy Sexton).
G-men address a huge area of need.

26. Chicago Bears: Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona State (Tom Condon).
Now that they go two-deep at quarterback, it might be a good idea to go two-deep at receiver, too.

27. Carolina Panthers: Joseph Addai, RB, LSU (Ian Greengross).
Backfield currently exists of DeShaun Foster, Nick Goings and . . . and . . . .

28. Jacksonville Jaguars: DeMeco Ryans, LB, Alabama (Archie Lamb, Kirk Wood).
Unless LaVar Arrington slashes his price, Jags will still be looking for a replacement to Akin Ayodele come late April.

29. New York Jets (from Broncos via Falcons): Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State (Brian Mackler, James Ivler).
John Abraham? Who the hell is John Abraham?

30. Indianapolis Colts: Maurice Drew, RB, UCLA (Adisa Bakari).
Barring a trade up for one of the bigger name backs, Colts take the best one still on the board.

31. Seattle Seahawks: Max Jean-Gilles, G, Georgia (Eugene Parker).
'Hawks address their most obvious area of need in the wake of the departure of Steve Hutchinson.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers: Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (Drew Rosenhaus).
Antwaan Randle El? Who the hell is Antwaan Randle El?

Here's another mock (3 rounds):

http://draftseason.com/index2.php?Page_Name=LupagusMock

Version 7.1 updated 3-24-06

Texans: Reggie Bush RB, USC – The Texans need to give Carr more weapons, and with this pick they give him the most explosive one of all.

Saints: D'Brickashaw Ferguson OT, Virginia. – The Saints may move down a few spots and still be able to land a stud, but if they stay here they'll probably choose between Fergie, Hawk, or Super Mario.

Titans: Matt Leinart QB, USC – I think the whole state of Tennessee will collectively shit their pants if Leinart is still on the board here. It'd be a great pick.

Jets: Mario Williams DE, North Carolina St. – The Jets got Patrick Ramsey and now can look to address another posisition here, and do so by finding the replacement for Abraham.

Packers: AJ Hawk OLB, Ohio St. – The Pack grab the Hawk, who will make his presence felt from the first minute he steps on the frozen tundra of Lambeau.

49ers: Vernon Davis TE, Maryland – The 49ers need to give Alex Smith more weapons, and here they give him V.D.

Raiders: Vince Young QB, Texas – The Raiders were looking to nab Culpepper but backed out, so now they grab Young who is just too big a name for Al Davis to pass up.

Bills: Haloti Ngata DT, Oregon – The loss of Fat Pat Williams hurt the Bills much more than they thought and they take this big body to replace him.

Lions: Michael Huff CB/S Virginia Tech – The Lions need a playmaker along side Dre Bly in their secondary and find a versatile stallion here.

Cardinals: Jay Cutler QB, Vanderbilt – Denny finally drafts a QB that the Cardinals can build their future around.

Rams: Jimmy Williams CB, Virgnia Tech – The Rams continue to rebuild ther D, with this here pick.

Browns: Broderick Bunkley DT, FSU - The Browns have had a tremendous offseason so far and could go many ways with this pick, and this time they grab double B.

Ravens: Winston Justice OT, USC – The Ravens addressed their need at RB by signing Mike Anderson and Jamal Lewis so now they can get some help on the right side of their line.

Eagles: Santonio Holmes WR, Ohio St. – What is the one thing that Reggie Brown, Jabar Gaffaney, Todd Pinkston, Greg Lewis, Darnerian McCants, and Billy McMullen all have in common? None of them are a true no. 1 receiver. Holmes definitely has the potential to be.

Broncos: DeAngelo Williams RB, Memphis – The Broncos trade up hoping that a QB falls here but it doesn't happen so they grab a stud RB who can flourish in their system.

Dolphins: Ernie "Big Ern" Sims OLB, FSU - OLB is about the only position the Phins still need to address and they get a stud here.

Vikings: Chad Greenway OLB, Iowa – If the Vikes make the right move and not pass on Greenway here , there is a good chance I'll watch the rest of the first round in the nude.

Cowboys: Manny Lawson OLB/DE, North Carolina St. – The Boys got TO, so now they add another pass rushing terror to their defense.

Chargers: Tye Hill CB, Clemson – It just wouldn't be draft day if the Chargers didn't take a first round Cornerback.

Chiefs: Chad Jackson WR, Florida - The Chiefs finally nab a guy who can be a go to receiver for Trent Green.

Patriots: LenDale White RB, USC – The Pats are one team that may be looking towards the future by grabbing this young workhorse.

Broncos: Sinorice Moss WR, Miami – Denver needs a new young receiver, and Moss is a speedster who would give them a legitimate deep threat.

Buccaneers: Eric Winston OT, Miami – The Bucs are looking for an offensive lineman and Winston may have improved his stock enough to be taken here.

Bengals: Gabe Watson DT, Michigan – First round defensive tackles are always a risk, but the Bengals take their chances on this big space eater. :scum4:

Giants: Bobby Carpenter OLB, Ohio St. – The Giants LBs were decimated by injuries last year and adding Carpenter would be a very wise choice.

Bears: Leonard Pope TE, Geogia – The Bears prayers are answered as the Pontiff is waiting for them here.

Panthers: Dominique Byrd TE, USC – The Cats filled their D-Tackle need through free agency so here they grab a stud TE.

Jaguars: Thomas Howard OLB, UTEP – The Jags filled their need at CB, so now they look to further improve their D by grabbing the fastest linebacker in the entire world.

Jets: Marcus McNeil OT, Auburn – The Jets use the pick they got from Denver to grab this big boy, and hope he can keep Pennington healthy.

Colts: Laurence Maroney RB, Minnesota – The Colts are Edgeless, but breathe a major sigh of relief and quickly get their card in to grab Maroney who would be a HUGE steal this late in the first round.

Seattle: Max Jean Gilles OG, Georgia – The Hawks lost Hutch, and they don't believe Pork Chop Womack can replace him so they grab this big behemoth here and hope he can flourish next to Walter Jones.

Steelers: Mathias Kiwanuka DE, Boston College - The Steelers lost von Oelhoffen so getting a replacement here would be wise.

We've allotted 35-players first, second and third round grades. Starting in rounds four-through-seven that number was increased to 40, allowing for additional picks which will be handed out through the compensatory selections.

SI's latest mock-draft. No mention of Youboty. The Gator WR is listed ahead of Holmes at #14.

it's been over an hour, and the ESPN NFL draft special and we've learned nothing about anyone besides Bush, Leinart and Young. Fortunately, we have covered nearly every aspect of the NFL (Favre, TO, Edge, assistant coaches). Brilliant work espn:bonk:

oh, I'm sorry, we also had mel field 3-4 emails about the draft, with a kneejerk 'donte is rising' comment.

fortunately, now we're back to talking about the superbowl champions and their losses in teh offseason, with no mention of what they should do in the draft as a result.
