With the 35th pick in the draft, Detroit selects Khalif Barnes, OT, University of Washington.

I am very happy that Barnes slid to this spot. Stockar McDougle is gone for Miami, and right tackle is a huge need for this team. The Lions were considering Alex Barron at #10, but that seemed like a stretch. Luckily Cleveland forced our hand and drafted Barron early and thus we took the best defensive player available in Shawne Merriman. The 2nd round became all about tackle for the Lions. Some experts are projecting Barnes as the best tackle in the draft and a potential first rounder after a dominating performance at the Senior Bowl against the likes of David Pollak, Justin Tuck, Dan Cody, and Matt Roth. Barnes will probably play left tackle and Jeff Backus will move to right tackle, which is more his natural position. Considering I am out of town this weekend and tackle was such a glaring need, we were more than happy to trade up to get Barnes.

I should have Matt Millen's job...

Tennessee selects David Baas, OG Michigan.

Tennessee would have really liked to have picked Barnes here, however, Tennessee needs an upgrade in the entire interior line. Baas offers the versatility to fill each guard spot as well as center if need be.

Tennessee could have also considered qb or wr with this pick.

The Raiders are thrilled that this OLB is still on the boards, as that is a major need (what isnt :( ). This fits the Raiders' needs perfectly.

"With the, uh, 39th pick in the 2005 BuckeyePlanet mock draft, the CHicago Bears select..."

Matt Jones, WR/TE, Arkansas

I made this pick because this is actually the guy (in real life) that the Bears want to trade down in the first round and get with a later pick. He played QB at Arkansas, but the Bears are enamored with his combination of size and speed, and the fact he handled the ball a lot as a QB. They want to make him a WR/TE hybrid and take advantage of mismatches.
